The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 282

Just as she pulled the door open, the bodyguard grabbed her arm.

Mrs. Channing stared at her coldly. "Ms. Jowett, why make a scene for everyone to see? I'm trying to leave you with some dignity, yet you don't even know how to appreciate it?"

Even if the people outside the hospital room saw the Channing family beating someone, so what?

With the Channing family's influence, sweeping a minor incident like this under the rug would be effortless.

As Winona frantically tried to figure out a way out, she spotted two familiar figures in the hallway.

It was Sheldon Cohen and Zack Charlton.

Zack spotted her first and hurried over.

Sheldon was well-acquainted with the restaurant manager, who had tipped him off that something had gone wrong with Winona, prompting the two of them to rush to the hospital.

"Winona, are you okay?"

Winona let out a breath of relief when she saw them.

She turned back to Mrs. Channing. "These are the men I was having dinner with, Sheldon and Zack. They both work at the Riverton Medical Research Institute. You can verify everything with them instead of just listening to Blythe's one-sided story."

Mrs. Channing looked at Sheldon and Zack. Both looked educated and polite, not at all like the type of men who would mess around. A flicker of doubt crossed her eyes.

But then again, you could never judge a book by its cover. Plenty of men who fooled around looked like perfect gentlemen on the outside.

Seeing the bodyguard still gripping Winona, Sheldon frowned. He stepped forward and addressed Mrs. Channing, "The restaurant manager informed us about what happened to Ms. Sterling. It is absolutely impossible for Winona to have anything to do with this."

Camille Locke arrived right at that moment.

When she heard her mother had been helping set up Zayden Shipley and Simone, she had been utterly speechless.

A man like Zayden marrying Simone? With his wandering eye and knack for causing trouble, their marriage would inevitably implode, turning the Shipley and Sterling families into bitter enemies—and likely dragging the Locke family down with them.

Before she could even intervene to stop it, she received word that Willow and Blythe had taken Simone out for dinner and had concocted this idiotic scheme to drug her.

She had nearly fainted from sheer anger.

Hearing that a massive scene was unfolding at the hospital, she rushed over to clean up their mess.

Camille gritted her teeth, refusing to let the Locke family share in the Shipleys' humiliation.

She tried to reason with Mrs. Channing. "Mrs. Channing, if this blows up, it's going to look ugly for everyone involved."

Mrs. Channing was also wary of her family becoming a public laughingstock. She glared coldly at Sheldon. "Everyone has connections in Riverton. Try calling the cops and see what happens."

Terrified of being exposed, Blythe fueled the fire. "The security cameras were shut off. What could the police possibly find? They'll just end up protecting Winona, and Ms. Sterling will be forced to swallow this injustice."

Mrs. Channing was now backed into a corner. She couldn't afford to call the police, but she couldn't let Simone suffer for nothing either.

Finally, she snapped, "I don't care what the actual truth is. Before Simone passed out, Winona was the only one there, so she's taking the blame! If anyone tries to stop my men, beat them up too!"

Sheldon and Zack immediately stepped in front of Winona to shield her.

But they were obviously no match for trained bodyguards.

Just then, an icy voice echoed down the corridor.

"Mrs. Channing, are you planning on having me beaten as well?"
