After leaving Greenwood Sanitarium, Max drove straight back to Oakridge Estate. Having been away for so long, stepping into the massive, echoing living room felt unusually desolate and cold.

The housekeeper spotted him and immediately rushed forward to greet him. "Sir, you're back."

Max completely ignored her, striding straight up the sweeping staircase. He pushed open the door to the master bedroom and swept his gaze over the pristine space, his face instantly darkening. He marched directly toward the walk-in closet and violently yanked the wardrobe doors open. The sections that once held women's clothing were completely stripped bare. He stood there staring into the empty void for a long time.

Moving into the vanity room, his eyes fell upon the glass display cases filled with brand-new, completely untouched jewelry. He stood frozen before the glittering diamonds and pearls, silently taking it all in, before letting out a soft, mocking scoff. Walking back into the bedroom, he threw himself fully clothed onto the massive bed and shut his eyes.

At seven o'clock that evening, a sleek Bugatti Veyron glided smoothly to a stop in front of the grand entrance of an exclusive private club. Max stepped out of the luxury vehicle, casually tossed his keys to the waiting valet, and shoved one hand into his pocket. He strode briskly toward the lavish lobby.

"Max."

Max paused in his tracks, turning his head to see Wyatt walking toward him. Wyatt had actually called him earlier that day to arrange this meeting. He stepped up, casting a critical eye over his friend's lean frame before giving his shoulder a firm, companionable pat. "You've lost quite a bit of weight. You definitely don't look as sharp as you used to. Even a powerhouse like you has a breaking point. You really need to take some time off and nurse yourself back to full strength."

Max gave a noncommittal hum. He turned and resumed walking. "Let's go."

Wyatt easily kept pace beside him, casually dropping the bomb. "I heard you and Felicia finalized your divorce."

Max's expression did not twitch. "Since when did you become such a gossip?"

"This is a massive deal, man!" Wyatt exclaimed, shaking his head in sheer disbelief.

Max offered absolutely no response. Wyatt shot a sideways glance at his friend's rigidly clenched jaw as they reached the elevators. The stainless steel doors slid open with a soft chime. Max stepped inside, and Wyatt quickly followed. The doors glided shut, sealing them in the quiet, mirrored cube.

Wyatt stood slightly behind him, studying Max's reflection in the polished glass.

In the past, Darin would never have dared to abandon his corporate post for so long to handle Max's personal emergencies, especially with the Curtis family constantly lurking in the shadows, waiting for a chance to strike.

However, after the recent brutal fallout, the Curtis family had been severely crippled. Even with Darin operating out of the country, they entirely lacked the strength or the courage to launch a suicidal counterattack.

Furthermore, Darin had struck an ironclad agreement with the chairman of the Curtis family, promising a mutual non-aggression pact. Naturally, the rest of the family wouldn't dare defy the old man's strict orders.

After briefly covering the necessary business matters, Darin shifted his focus back to the pressing issue. "How did your family address the situation with Felicia?"

Sitting quietly to the side, Wyatt had been listening intently. Hearing Darin refer to Felicia so familiarly, he finally voiced the burning question he had been harboring. "If you don't mind me asking, Mr. Foxhall, what exactly is your relationship with Felicia?" He had been deeply curious for a while now, noticing just how unusually invested Darin seemed in her well-being.
