As Jeremy's words fell, a sudden gust of wind violently blew the window open, letting out a jarring, ear-splitting crash. Terrified, Rusty and Marble immediately scrambled back under the sofa to hide. The pouring rain from outside whipped into the room. Even though it was a humid August night, the interior of the apartment felt entirely engulfed in waves of piercing cold.
Felicia was just about to enter the apartment when the loud crash of the window startled her. She froze in her tracks, standing rooted to the spot for what felt like an eternity. Only when her legs began to ache did she finally take a deep breath and step inside, clutching the bag of cat food.
The two men sitting across from each other at the dining table remained perfectly still. The moment she walked in, Max's sharp, chilling gaze locked onto her.
Jeremy turned his head to look at her, then stood up and walked over. "I bought a few different flavors, but not too many," he said smoothly. "Let's see which one they like best first."
Felicia offered a quiet hum of agreement. She walked over to a cabinet next to the television where she kept all the pet supplies and neatly arranged the cans inside.
Meanwhile, Jeremy walked over to the open window and firmly locked it, instantly sealing off the howling wind and plunging the room back into absolute silence. Felicia closed the cabinet drawer and stood still, her back facing the men. After a long while, she steadied her racing heart. She exhaled softly and turned around. The moment her eyes met Max's intense stare, her chest tightened uncontrollably. Curling her fingers into light fists, she forced herself to walk over to the dining table and sat directly across from him. "Max, we..."
Before she could finish, he cut her off with a frigid tone. "What do you want to say?"
Felicia stared at him.
"I never signed anything. There was no notarization. What divorce are you talking about?" he demanded.
"The Records Office stamped the official seal on the divorce decree," she replied quietly.
Max let out a harsh scoff. "Felicia, have you lost your mind?!"
"Anne," she greeted softly.
"Mommy, Daddy went to see you! Is he there yet?"
Felicia managed a quiet hum. "Yes, he's here. Why didn't you tell Mommy you were flying back?"
"Daddy told me to keep it a secret. He said he wanted to give you a surprise," Anne chirped cheerfully. "He wouldn't even let me tag along! He said he wanted some alone time with you. Hmph. He called me a clingy little bug, but he is the real clingy one!"
Hearing her daughter's sweet, innocent voice, Felicia could not stop her eyes from welling up with tears. She quickly exchanged a few more brief words before hanging up, terrified that her carefully maintained facade would crumble in front of Anne. The second the call ended, she felt as if her heart was being brutally ripped apart. A profound sense of utter helplessness crashed over her like a suffocating wave of darkness, leaving her feeling utterly lost and defeated. Outside, the rain poured relentlessly throughout the night, showing absolutely no signs of stopping.

Oh nooo!! Don’t tell me Max will get washed ashore on a remote island then loses all his memory, then falls inlove with the local girl who saves him. Then when he meets Felicia again he won’t recognize her and breaks her heart again. Additional plot twist is that Felicia is pregnant with their 2nd child. Please pleaseee don’t give us this scenario.. LOL!!!...
If Max can be forgiven Darrin can be forgiven. And I do not like this marriage business but if it has to happen I hope after he gets stranded on some remote island alone while Felicia and his family fight over custody she wins and also gets half his estate. Then by time he comes back she's found having and remarried. Lol...
The writer is good. They're making me interested in Max. I won't say like yet....
It seems the only one who hasn't suffered is Max. Even his family fakes anger and disappointment all their own doing so they suffer a little. Everyone else has suffered. Luke and Jeremy unrequited. Felicia has suffered the most from family to unrequited to romance to long suffering Mother. Even baby Anne never had a mother til Felicia suffered then came back only to suffer some more. lol...
Oh no what did Colton do?... I have a bone to pick. When Olisha had to go the hospital why beg for Felicia? When she so loved Max? Seemed like she was in on the setup for Felicia to see a suicide for the 2nd time orchestrated by holden and his brother again. I might drop this series it's becoming endless with no real satisfaction for me. I don't need it to end because it's like a soap opera but if things don't end up making sense, tying up loose storylines it's gonna get old fast for me. Good luck author....
Anne, I think your baby brother is on the way. Thank goodness it doesn't say that Felicia is crying just like the last time but still, there's no willingness on her part. Max! You need to try harder. Make her fall in love with you again....
