Felicia lowered her eyes and gave a gentle nod. Jeremy withdrew his gaze, pulled two paper towels to wipe his hands, and tossed the crumpled wads into the trash can. He then picked up an empty plate, scooped himself some food, casually taking a bite.
"You can ask Mabel to cook a bit less next time," he suggested.
A quick glance at the table revealed that the spread of food barely looked touched.
Felicia sat perfectly straight. Still not looking up, she murmured a soft sound of agreement. She could feel a fierce, piercing stare pinned on her, as if trying to swallow her alive. A harsh scraping sound shattered the quiet as the chair was pulled out. Felicia finally looked at the man across from her. Max had dragged out a chair and sat down squarely opposite her. His dark eyes were overwhelmingly gloomy, radiating a heavy, oppressive aura that felt even more suffocating than the howling rainy night outside the window. Her hands resting in her lap clenched tightly together.
"Where are the two little kittens?" Jeremy suddenly asked.
Felicia froze for a moment before snapping back to reality. She glanced over her shoulder. "They should be under the sofa."
As if hearing their names, Rusty and Marble let out a series of meows and crawled out from under the furniture. The ginger kitten and the tabby squeezed past to rub against Jeremy's feet, their little voices carrying a hint of aggrieved complaint.
Jeremy looked down at the tiny felines, then turned to Felicia. "I forgot to bring up the canned food I bought for them. It's in the trunk. Felicia, could you go get it?"
Felicia just looked at him.
Jeremy pulled his car keys from his pants pocket and held them out to her. "Go on."
Hesitating for a split second, Felicia reached out and took the keys with a quiet nod. She stood up and headed toward the door. Only after she changed her shoes and stepped out of the apartment did the air finally feel breathable again. She leaned back against the wall in the hallway and stood there for a while. The dead silence inside the room had been incredibly oppressive. After a long moment, she threw one last glance back at the door before walking toward the elevator and pressing the down button.
Inside the apartment, the atmosphere was suffocatingly tense.
"So what is your stance, Jeremy, hovering obsessively over a married woman?"
Jeremy rested his hand on the table, his index finger tapping the surface lightly. His expression did not waver. Behind his glasses, his gaze fixed squarely on Max's face as a faint, almost imperceptible smirk curved his lips. "This is truly the first time I have seen you look like this, Max. It really proves the saying about karma. Back when you detested Felicia so much, did you ever imagine this outcome?"
Max stared at him, his dark eyes narrowing as his breathing grew noticeably heavy and controlled.
"You probably never thought you would see this day," Jeremy said with a sarcastic chuckle. "Even if you did, you likely assumed Felicia was someone you could control at will. It is a pity you are not omnipotent. Not everything will go exactly as you wish."
"You have said enough," Max warned, his voice frighteningly cold.
The smirk on Jeremy's lips deepened. "Did Tatiana not tell you? You and Felicia are already divorced. She is a free woman now."

Take her back? Want to see her?? Donno about Felicia but I think I’m falling for this Max somehow🫠🙈pls update daily...
I knew it! Hopefully Felicia's health will improve and will want to have the baby. Oh how I despise Max's family....
Please post *I forgot I ever loved you*...
Is this coming to an end...
Oh nooo!! Don’t tell me Max will get washed ashore on a remote island then loses all his memory, then falls inlove with the local girl who saves him. Then when he meets Felicia again he won’t recognize her and breaks her heart again. Additional plot twist is that Felicia is pregnant with their 2nd child. Please pleaseee don’t give us this scenario.. LOL!!!...
If Max can be forgiven Darrin can be forgiven. And I do not like this marriage business but if it has to happen I hope after he gets stranded on some remote island alone while Felicia and his family fight over custody she wins and also gets half his estate. Then by time he comes back she's found having and remarried. Lol...
The writer is good. They're making me interested in Max. I won't say like yet....
It seems the only one who hasn't suffered is Max. Even his family fakes anger and disappointment all their own doing so they suffer a little. Everyone else has suffered. Luke and Jeremy unrequited. Felicia has suffered the most from family to unrequited to romance to long suffering Mother. Even baby Anne never had a mother til Felicia suffered then came back only to suffer some more. lol...
Oh no what did Colton do?... I have a bone to pick. When Olisha had to go the hospital why beg for Felicia? When she so loved Max? Seemed like she was in on the setup for Felicia to see a suicide for the 2nd time orchestrated by holden and his brother again. I might drop this series it's becoming endless with no real satisfaction for me. I don't need it to end because it's like a soap opera but if things don't end up making sense, tying up loose storylines it's gonna get old fast for me. Good luck author....
Anne, I think your baby brother is on the way. Thank goodness it doesn't say that Felicia is crying just like the last time but still, there's no willingness on her part. Max! You need to try harder. Make her fall in love with you again....
