Max stood there in the dimly lit hallway, dressed entirely in black. He radiated a freezing, murderous aura. His dark eyes were as cold and bottomless as a frozen lake as they locked onto her.
Felicia was dressed comfortably in a cream-colored knit loungewear set, her long hair pinned up in a loose, effortless bun. She looked exactly like a devoted wife eagerly welcoming her husband home. Yet the moment she realized who was actually standing there, the warm, welcoming smile instantly vanished from her lips.
"Who were you waiting for?"
His voice was horrifyingly low and icy. It felt as though an invisible hand had just clamped around her throat, making it impossible to breathe. Her fingers curled into tight fists, desperately gripping the fabric of her pants.
A suffocating, terrifying silence filled the room.
Fighting back her panic, Felicia took a deep breath, forcing her voice to sound calm and indifferent. "What are you doing here?"
Max's eyes narrowed dangerously as he took a slow, deliberate step forward. Felicia gasped and instinctively stepped back.
Seeing the blatant rejection in her eyes, Max's tone turned incredibly cruel. "Are you hiding something shameful in here?"
Before Felicia could even formulate a response, Max shoved past her and marched directly into the apartment. His eyes immediately darted to the entryway floor, where a large pair of men's slippers rested neatly on the mat. He stopped dead in his tracks. The atmospheric pressure inside the room seemed to violently plummet.
Rusty and Marble trotted out to investigate the commotion, but the moment they sensed the sheer hostility rolling off the intruder, they puffed up to twice their size and began aggressively hissing at him. Max slowly dragged his gaze down to the tiny animals. The kittens arched their backs further, their tiny legs stiffening in sheer terror as they backed away.
Noticing where his attention was drawn, Felicia silently hurried over to the kittens and scooped them into her arms. The tiny creatures continued to vibrate with fearful growls against her chest. She quickly deposited them onto the top tier of their scratching post. Sensing the dangerous man stepping closer, the kittens immediately scrambled behind a plush cushion to hide.
Max surveyed the living room with predatory focus before perfectly identifying the location of the master bedroom. He immediately strode toward it.
Reaching the bedroom doorway, Felicia realized he wasn't following. She paused, glancing nervously over her shoulder. "Are you going to eat or not?" she asked quietly.
Max's breathing hitched heavily before he finally stepped out of the room. Felicia let out a quiet sigh of relief.
When they reached the dining room, Felicia walked over to Mabel and quickly whispered something in her ear. Mabel nodded immediately and retreated to her own bedroom, pulling the door shut behind her. Max watched the secretive exchange with intense suspicion. Felicia turned around, meeting his cold, piercing gaze, and felt a sudden spike of anxiety. She quickly walked over to the dining table. "Sit down."
Safely hidden in her room, Mabel quickly texted Jeremy, making up an excuse to tell him not to come down for dinner tonight.
The dining table was fully prepared with several dishes and a large bowl of warm soup. Felicia scooped some pasta, set it down in front of Max, and gestured. "Eat."

Oh nooo!! Don’t tell me Max will get washed ashore on a remote island then loses all his memory, then falls inlove with the local girl who saves him. Then when he meets Felicia again he won’t recognize her and breaks her heart again. Additional plot twist is that Felicia is pregnant with their 2nd child. Please pleaseee don’t give us this scenario.. LOL!!!...
If Max can be forgiven Darrin can be forgiven. And I do not like this marriage business but if it has to happen I hope after he gets stranded on some remote island alone while Felicia and his family fight over custody she wins and also gets half his estate. Then by time he comes back she's found having and remarried. Lol...
The writer is good. They're making me interested in Max. I won't say like yet....
It seems the only one who hasn't suffered is Max. Even his family fakes anger and disappointment all their own doing so they suffer a little. Everyone else has suffered. Luke and Jeremy unrequited. Felicia has suffered the most from family to unrequited to romance to long suffering Mother. Even baby Anne never had a mother til Felicia suffered then came back only to suffer some more. lol...
Oh no what did Colton do?... I have a bone to pick. When Olisha had to go the hospital why beg for Felicia? When she so loved Max? Seemed like she was in on the setup for Felicia to see a suicide for the 2nd time orchestrated by holden and his brother again. I might drop this series it's becoming endless with no real satisfaction for me. I don't need it to end because it's like a soap opera but if things don't end up making sense, tying up loose storylines it's gonna get old fast for me. Good luck author....
Anne, I think your baby brother is on the way. Thank goodness it doesn't say that Felicia is crying just like the last time but still, there's no willingness on her part. Max! You need to try harder. Make her fall in love with you again....
