"You make me sound so fragile," Felicia replied softly.
Jeremy let out a low chuckle. "It is always better to be careful. Take a couple of days to rest and settle in. There is no rush. We don't have any urgent business in Cloudville right now anyway."
"Then my salary is definitely a bit too easy to earn," Felicia mused.
"Compared to the value you bring to Roen Capital, it is a perfectly justified perk," Jeremy countered smoothly.
Felicia smiled. "It really is great having such a wonderful boss."
"Since you have such a wonderful boss, you better make sure to cherish him." His deep, magnetic voice flowed through the receiver, carrying a faint electric current that was teasing yet laced with genuine sincerity.
Felicia's heart skipped a half-beat, her fingers tightening slightly around her phone. She kept her tone natural. "Of course."
"Then hearing you say that is enough for me."
As they were talking, Darin's name flashed on her screen. Felicia pulled the phone away slightly to check. "Jeremy, I need to take another call."
"Alright, go ahead."
She ended the call with Jeremy and answered Darin's. "Hello."
"Are you in Cloudville?" Darin asked.
"Yeah," Felicia hummed quietly.
"Make sure you get plenty of rest. No working until you have fully recovered."
"I am doing perfectly fine now. I have rested enough."
Darin gripped his phone tightly. The more calm and indifferent she acted, the more uneasy and worried he became. But it seemed that no amount of persuasion would work right now.
"Do you honestly think Felicia is acting normally right now?"
"It seems you have noticed it too," Jeremy replied.
The more normal Felicia appeared, the more it proved she was suppressing all her emotions. She was trapping herself inside an airtight emotional box. Unable to process her trauma, it would only fester and worsen internally. She couldn't even manage her own feelings right now, let alone have the energy to care about anyone else's. She had not fully recovered to begin with, and the events of the past month had dragged her right back to square one. In fact, her internal state might be even worse now. Her only coping mechanism was constant avoidance, shrinking into a tiny space just to find a sliver of safety.
Darin frowned, his voice laced with anxiety. "Then what should we do?"
"I will head over there in a couple of days," Jeremy said. "We will see how she is doing then."
"Alright. Keep me updated, and I will head back as soon as I can."
"Will do."
Lowering his phone, Darin's expression turned grim. Given Max's current state, it was highly unlikely he had even considered calling Felicia to check on her.

Oh nooo!! Don’t tell me Max will get washed ashore on a remote island then loses all his memory, then falls inlove with the local girl who saves him. Then when he meets Felicia again he won’t recognize her and breaks her heart again. Additional plot twist is that Felicia is pregnant with their 2nd child. Please pleaseee don’t give us this scenario.. LOL!!!...
If Max can be forgiven Darrin can be forgiven. And I do not like this marriage business but if it has to happen I hope after he gets stranded on some remote island alone while Felicia and his family fight over custody she wins and also gets half his estate. Then by time he comes back she's found having and remarried. Lol...
The writer is good. They're making me interested in Max. I won't say like yet....
It seems the only one who hasn't suffered is Max. Even his family fakes anger and disappointment all their own doing so they suffer a little. Everyone else has suffered. Luke and Jeremy unrequited. Felicia has suffered the most from family to unrequited to romance to long suffering Mother. Even baby Anne never had a mother til Felicia suffered then came back only to suffer some more. lol...
Oh no what did Colton do?... I have a bone to pick. When Olisha had to go the hospital why beg for Felicia? When she so loved Max? Seemed like she was in on the setup for Felicia to see a suicide for the 2nd time orchestrated by holden and his brother again. I might drop this series it's becoming endless with no real satisfaction for me. I don't need it to end because it's like a soap opera but if things don't end up making sense, tying up loose storylines it's gonna get old fast for me. Good luck author....
Anne, I think your baby brother is on the way. Thank goodness it doesn't say that Felicia is crying just like the last time but still, there's no willingness on her part. Max! You need to try harder. Make her fall in love with you again....
