"And what did you tell him, Anne?" Felicia asked.
Anne crossed her arms and huffed. "I told him I am not interested and warned him never to hold my hand again, or else I'd hit him. Then he cried."
Felicia couldn't help but laugh. For a child her age, Anne's fierce demeanor was actually quite intimidating. Most of the other kids were a bit scared of her, so for that boy to confess his feelings meant he was truly brave.
"You can use your words to tell him off, Anne, but you absolutely cannot hit people."
"I know. I didn't hit him. I just warned him."
Anne's forceful personality was truly a mirror image of Max's. It was likely no one would ever be able to push her around in the future, which was honestly a good thing.
"What's his name, Anne?" Max asked suddenly.
Anne was just about to answer when Felicia interjected. "As long as Anne can handle it herself and it doesn't affect her, you shouldn't intervene. They're just kids. He understood what Anne said, and that's enough." Felicia could tell from Max's tone and dark expression that he was probably plotting a way to get the boy expelled.
Max looked up at her. "I was just asking casually."
Felicia gave him a knowing look but didn't say anything more.
They arrived at a Western restaurant. Someone recognized Max and came over to greet him. Seeing them caught up in conversation, Felicia took Anne and headed to their table first.
Anne whispered to her mother, "Mom, when are you going to give it to Dad?"
Felicia sighed softly. "I will give it to him. Be impatient, okay?"
Anne nodded. "Okay."
Felicia quickly covered. "I had a snack this afternoon, so I'm not that hungry."
Max stared deeply at her. Felicia calmly picked up her glass of lemon water and took a sip. Max withdrew his gaze and ordered two dishes for himself. Fortunately, Felicia managed to get through the meal without any sudden bouts of nausea.
After dinner, Max drove Felicia and Anne back to the Ross family estate, mentioning he had business to attend to that evening.
Over the next two days, Max actually initiated contact with her. Of course, his messages were strictly about Anne's school life, consisting of just a few brief sentences without any extraneous small talk.
Max held his phone, staring at the message Felicia had sent to end their last conversation. She was acting as nonchalant as ever. She didn't seem like someone preparing to give him a gift. He stared at the screen for a long time. Finally, his face clouded over, and he tossed the phone aside.
Isaac knocked and entered the office. Sensing Mr. Hawthorne's foul mood, a wave of guilt and dread washed over him. Mr. Hawthorne's temper was becoming increasingly volatile and unpredictable. This moody behavior was far more suffocating and stressful than his usual stoic, unwavering authority.
Meanwhile, Felicia still hadn't figured out how to give the amulet to him. The main issue was that Anne kept asking about it. If she delayed any longer, Anne would definitely bring it up again, and Felicia was entirely at a loss for what to do.

Oh nooo!! Don’t tell me Max will get washed ashore on a remote island then loses all his memory, then falls inlove with the local girl who saves him. Then when he meets Felicia again he won’t recognize her and breaks her heart again. Additional plot twist is that Felicia is pregnant with their 2nd child. Please pleaseee don’t give us this scenario.. LOL!!!...
If Max can be forgiven Darrin can be forgiven. And I do not like this marriage business but if it has to happen I hope after he gets stranded on some remote island alone while Felicia and his family fight over custody she wins and also gets half his estate. Then by time he comes back she's found having and remarried. Lol...
The writer is good. They're making me interested in Max. I won't say like yet....
It seems the only one who hasn't suffered is Max. Even his family fakes anger and disappointment all their own doing so they suffer a little. Everyone else has suffered. Luke and Jeremy unrequited. Felicia has suffered the most from family to unrequited to romance to long suffering Mother. Even baby Anne never had a mother til Felicia suffered then came back only to suffer some more. lol...
Oh no what did Colton do?... I have a bone to pick. When Olisha had to go the hospital why beg for Felicia? When she so loved Max? Seemed like she was in on the setup for Felicia to see a suicide for the 2nd time orchestrated by holden and his brother again. I might drop this series it's becoming endless with no real satisfaction for me. I don't need it to end because it's like a soap opera but if things don't end up making sense, tying up loose storylines it's gonna get old fast for me. Good luck author....
Anne, I think your baby brother is on the way. Thank goodness it doesn't say that Felicia is crying just like the last time but still, there's no willingness on her part. Max! You need to try harder. Make her fall in love with you again....
