The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 1014

Savannah leaned slightly toward Darin, her eyes drifting over the newspaper in his hands. "What are you reading?"

Darin turned his head to look at the woman leaning into his space. "Sit properly."

Savannah stared at him and huffed indignantly. "What a weirdo." Considering his performance just now had been highly satisfactory, she decided not to argue with him.

Leaning back into the plush sofa, she pulled her phone from her bag and texted Felicia: I ran into your brother in the departure lounge.

Felicia replied quickly: Okay. Send me a message when you land.

Savannah typed back: Will do.

As she lowered her phone, she caught Darin staring intently at her. She immediately understood what he was thinking. Crossing her arms, she arched a challenging brow. "What are you looking at? Are you really that afraid I'm talking bad about you?"

Darin looked away, remaining silent.

Savannah continued, "So it turns out you aren't entirely a block of wood. You actually spent the night at Felicia's place."

Felicia had not given her any specific details, merely mentioning that Darin stayed over. But Savannah knew Felicia would never actively invite him to sleep over. That meant Darin must have stubbornly insisted on staying himself. So, it turned out Darin was not exactly thin-skinned after all. His shamelessness just depended on the person and the situation.

Darin kept his eyes lowered, continuing to read his newspaper.

Savannah stared at him in disbelief. "Can you not open your mouth and say a single word?"

"You can talk. I'll just listen," Darin replied evenly.

A surge of irritation flared in Savannah's chest. She turned her head sharply away, entirely losing the desire to speak another word to him.

"Get in," Darin said. "I'll give you a ride."

Savannah stared at him. For several long seconds, they simply looked at each other in a silent standoff. Then, Savannah marched back over and climbed directly into the car. Darin gave her a brief glance, walked around the front of the vehicle, and got in on the other side.

The car slowly pulled away from the airport. Savannah stared out the window the entire time, not saying a word. The interior of the car was engulfed in total silence.

It was nine-thirty by the time they reached the city hospital. Darin stepped out of the car, instructed the driver to take Savannah home, and finally looked at the stubbornly silent woman in the backseat. Taking the initiative, he said gently, "Go to bed early when you get back."

Savannah turned to look at him, her expression softening. "I know."

Darin said nothing more. He closed the car door and turned, striding briskly toward the hospital entrance. The driver pulled away, taking Savannah home.

Darin took the elevator up to the intensive care unit. After asking the nurses for an update, he learned that Yvonne was still in the ICU, surrounded by specialized medical staff. Her vitals had finally stabilized, and she was scheduled to be moved to a regular private ward the following day.
