The woman didn't even have a phone on her. Who knew where she came from.
Helpless, Simon had no choice but to dutifully pay the bills and handle the admission paperwork.
He had mentally prepared himself to pull an all-nighter, but shortly after, he received an urgent call from the company's planning department about a critical document that needed immediate processing.
Returning to the hospital room, he saw the man sitting on the sofa, wearing earpieces and handling work. Just sitting there, his tall and straight figure looked like an unparalleled work of art.
"Boss."
Simon rubbed his nose. "I might need to head back to the office for a bit."
The man on the sofa furrowed his brow, turning his head toward the sound. "Are you suggesting I stay here and watch over her?"
"..." You don't have to.
But you brought her here, so naturally, you're responsible for her.
Simon certainly couldn't say that out loud. He cleared his throat and said, "Boss... the poor girl looks quite pitiful. It wouldn't be right to just abandon her here, would it? We should see our good deed through to the end, don't you think?"
Silas's eyes were pitch black, resembling a pool of stagnant water.
He didn't answer and simply lowered his gaze.
He unpaused his Bluetooth earpiece.
Simon was genuinely surprised. Having worked by his side for years, he could practically read his boss's mind. Since when did Silas ever bother meddling in other people's business?
Before he could make sense of it, his phone buzzed with another frantic call from the office, forcing him to hurry back.
With Simon gone, the hospital room suddenly fell dead silent.
Having finished listening to the work report, Silas found himself with nothing to do for the moment.
He rubbed his fingers together, stood up, and took slow, deliberate strides toward the hospital bed.
Although the woman had been medicated, the effects hadn't fully kicked in yet. He could hear her faint panting and murmurs.
"Hot..."
"It hurts."
Vivian felt like she was being roasted over an open flame. She unconsciously reached up to claw at her clothes, but her last shred of reason screamed at her to stop.
Where was she?
He pried his hand free from her grasp and pressed the call button instead.
A moment later, a nurse pushed the door open.
"Hello..."
The moment the man turned around, the nurse forgot whatever she was going to say and simply stared at him in awe.
"Her medication hasn't taken full effect yet, so she might experience other symptoms soon. You are responsible for watching over her. If anything happens, get a doctor immediately."
The nurse gasped slightly and replied instinctively, "O-of course."
"Good."
Satisfied with her answer, Silas turned to grab his jacket and phone, ready to leave.
"Wait... sir!"
The nurse stopped him right as he reached the door.
"Um, if this lady asks about you, what should I say?"
