The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 409

"..." Insulting her again.

A sharp ridge flexed along Silas's jawline as he pressed his tongue against the inside of his cheek. He pulled his arm back. "Go to sleep."

The atmosphere that night was dangerously fragile. When the lights went out, the room was swallowed by the faint glow of the night sky. Vivian leaned against Silas's chest, behaving perfectly—so perfectly, in fact, she seemed guilty of a crime.

She knew he had definitely figured it out.

But confessing out of nowhere felt completely unnatural.

Why wasn't he asking?

Then again... no matter what she said, it would just sound like a desperate lie.

This was incredibly frustrating.

Amidst her chaotic thoughts, Vivian eventually drifted off to sleep.

Silas glanced down at her. Her soft, pristine face looked as flawless as a freshly peeled egg, so breathtakingly beautiful that it made him want to strangle her.

When she woke up, Silas was already gone. She walked downstairs just as Mrs. Gable walked out of the kitchen with breakfast.

"You don't have to look, Vivian. Mr. Sterling already left for the office."

"The office, or a business trip?"

"The office, I think."

Mrs. Gable cast a nervous glance at her and whispered, "Did you and Mr. Sterling have a fight? He didn't look happy."

After working there so long, she had figured out his patterns. If he skipped breakfast, he was definitely furious with Vivian.

"When is he ever happy?" Vivian took the breakfast plate and sat at the dining table. "Don't worry, Mrs. Gable. I'll sweet-talk him later. By the way, make something highly nutritious for dinner tonight. He's injured, so he needs a good meal."

"Right, okay."

Mrs. Gable wiped her hands, unable to hold back.

"Vivian, I really think you should figure out why he's mad..."

Before she could finish, Vivian shot her a sharp look. Mrs. Gable braced herself and added, "It's just that every time you 'sweet-talk' him, he somehow ends up even angrier..."

Vivian: "..."

Was that true?

Really?

She stabbed her fork violently into her plate, grumbling. "I get it, Mrs. Gable. Just stop talking. Nothing you say is what I want to hear."
