If Scarlett had been merely indignant before, she was genuinely losing her mind now. She slammed her hand on the table, her eyes darting nervously. "So what if he has a fiancée? I didn't say I was involved with him! I just didn't want you going down the wrong path. Get it?"
"Oh. You're lashing out because I hit a nerve."
"Vivian, you bitch...!"
She was furious, but she knew that if she actually started a physical fight over this, it would mean she had fallen right into Vivian's trap.
Deep down, she knew her own conscience wasn't entirely clear, but any lingering mess between her and Zachary had been completely severed two years ago.
What was the point of bringing it up now?
She absolutely refused to admit it!
Scarlett closed her eyes and took several deep breaths. She had to admit that when it came to emotional control, she was completely outmatched by Vivian. This infuriating woman was exactly like Silas—equally unbearable!
Opening her eyes, she reinstated her haughty heiress facade.
"So you and Zachary really are close."
"You could say that."
"How did you meet?"
Scarlett stared at her intently, looking fully prepared to wage a war of attrition if Vivian refused to answer. "Zachary might look like an average guy, but his background rivals the Sterling family. How did you... the neglected daughter of a minor family, cross paths with him? Who exactly are you?"
"You asked way too many questions in one breath. I don't feel like answering."
"You..."
Seeing Vivian's lazy demeanor, Scarlett instinctively wanted to explode again. But she knew this woman wasn't someone she could easily intimidate, so she forced herself to play along.
"Then answer them one by one. Start with the first one!"
The woman said nothing.
