Vivian's eyes lit up. "I didn't expect you to be so adventurous. How about we play a game, then? You take off a piece of clothing, and I'll take off a piece of clothing?"
Silas was speechless.
His gaze darkened, but he didn't reply.
"Alright, I'll stop teasing you."
Vivian rolled onto her back, staring at the ceiling as she held the phone high above her. She let out a soft sigh. "When are you coming back? I really can't get used to sleeping without you here."
"You're in bed?"
"Yeah."
She pouted slightly and panned the camera to the space beside her. "Look. It's empty."
"Things here are going to take a bit longer. Be a good girl."
That was, without a doubt, the gentlest thing Silas had ever said to her.
Vivian stared at him for a long moment, her brows knitting together. "After all that, you still haven't told me where you are. Silas, are you seriously avoiding me on purpose?"
"..."
The man's voice dropped low. "What kind of nonsense is that?"
He was sitting on a sofa, and while the background was slightly blurry, it definitely didn't look like a hotel room.
"You're not secretly hiding another woman out there, are you? Keeping the home fires burning while you play the field?"
"..."
Her accusations were getting more and more absurd.
Silas pinched the bridge of his nose. "I'm up north at the Hillside Project, staying at Logan's place."
Oh.
Vivian asked, "Then can I come find you?"
"No."
"Ugh."
"Just stay put. I'll be back soon."
The man finished speaking, then added in a deep, magnetic voice, "Listen to me."
Women were strange creatures. Whenever they felt unappreciated, they would bare their fangs, as if to tell the other person, 'Look at me—I can love you, but I can also ruin you.'
