Scarlett stared with wide eyes, completely stunned for a few seconds. She couldn't believe those words had just come out of Silas's mouth.
"I... her?"
She was actually at a loss for words.
It wasn't a good feeling, and Scarlett's face flushed red.
"Forget it. I'm not going to lower myself to your level." She really couldn't out-argue him, and there was no point dwelling on useless things and delaying her actual business.
Taking a deep breath, Scarlett walked over and sat next to him. "I mainly came today to see if you had recovered, and to ask you for a small favor while I'm at it."
Silas smirked. "Don't you have that backward?"
She came to ask for a favor, and checked to see if he was capable of helping while she was at it.
"Ugh, whatever."
It didn't matter.
Scarlett waved her hand dismissively, clearing her throat to ask, "Are you going to help or not?"
"No."
"..." This jerk!
She had already suffered enough indignities for one day, yet miraculously, Scarlett didn't explode. She tossed her hair, revealing her stunningly beautiful face. "To be honest, it wouldn't be hard for me to find someone else to help, but then you'd miss out on a chance to learn more about Vivian. Are you sure?"
The man leaned back, his tall and broad frame exuding a lazy yet dazzling aura.
"Let's hear it."
"I have an ex-boyfriend, you know that."
Scarlett sat up straight to hide her discomfort, looking proud and gorgeous. "He's coming back, and I heard he's bringing the person he likes. I can't look like a loser. Do you have the heart to watch me be outdone?"
Silas automatically filtered out the irrelevant parts of her speech and hit the nail on the head.
"You still haven't gotten over him?"
"How is that possible?"
Scarlett fiercely denied it. "Why would I miss a piece of trash like him? But who am I? I'm Scarlett Sinclair. Do you think I'd let myself be humiliated? Are you going to help me or what?"
"..."
This damn man! Could someone just inexplicably punch him?
Scarlett patted her chest to soothe her breathing, but it didn't help. She opened her bag, pulled out a cigarette and a lighter, and just as she was about to light it, that annoying voice chimed in again. "If you're going to smoke, go outside."
She wasn't going to listen to him!
She lit it and took a drag.
The smoke drifted lightly across her face, like a thin veil.
Scarlett glanced upstairs, then lowered her head to take another drag, her red lips perfectly covering her previous lipstick mark. "I know you're highly capable, but there are some things you can't just find out simply because you want to."
Of course, she also knew Vivian couldn't hide it forever.
Otherwise, she wouldn't have used this as a bargaining chip.
Silas's deep gaze rested on Scarlett, his fingertips rubbing together lightly before he finally spoke in a low voice. "Let's hear it."
Scarlett curled her red lips into a smile. By saying that, he had essentially agreed to help.
