The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 34

With the departure date drawing closer, Jonah needed to ensure she wouldn't cause any problems, all to guarantee Amara's new heart valve remained perfectly safe.

The corners of her eyes curved upward as she smiled.

"Alright, no tantrums."

Vivian's tense body suddenly relaxed. She gave him a slow, seductive look. "How about you sleep with me tonight and promise never to see Amara again? Then I won't be mad anymore."

Just as expected, Jonah's expression changed the moment those words left her mouth.

That bone-chilling coldness practically screamed that he wanted to kill her.

After a moment, he said darkly, "Amara is your sister. Why must you be so hostile toward her?"

Vivian held his gaze and articulated every word. "Because I hate her. You have no idea how thrilled I was when she got diagnosed with a heart condition. I wish she would just die."

With every syllable she spoke, Jonah's grip on her hand tightened, as if he meant to crush her bones to dust.

He must absolutely loathe her right now.

Naturally.

He had stooped so low as to hire people to kidnap and beat her, all for Amara's sake.

How could he possibly stomach hearing her curse and slander the woman to his face?

A suffocating ache bloomed in Vivian's chest. She discreetly used a bit of leverage to twist out of his grasp. "And don't bother trying to make me apologize to her. I won't. It's never going to happen."

Jonah's jaw was clenched so tight it looked like his back teeth might shatter from the suppressed fury.

Vivian was annoyed by his intense glaring and finally lost her temper.

"Are you sleeping with me or not? If not, get the hell out and go back to your own room!"

Though they had technically been living together, they had always kept separate bedrooms. Truth be told, Vivian had gone into his room plenty of times, but this was the first time Jonah had ever set foot in hers.

Jonah stared at her with a heavy gaze before speaking coldly. "Vivian, have you looked at yourself lately?"

"What about me?"

"You're acting completely unhinged and vindictive."

"..."

"You were never like this." The man's voice rang with absolute certainty. "I understand that you're jealous of me and Amara, but I've explained it to you multiple times. Yet you still take all your anger out on her."

"When things go too far, they sour. You need to do some serious self-reflection."

Vivian stared at him for a second. "Who told you I like blueberries and honey?"

That was Amara's favorite!

A brief flash of awkwardness crossed Jonah's face, but he quickly recovered. "The housekeeper over there makes it a lot, so I assumed you liked it too. It's fine, just tell me what you like, and I'll make it for you next time."

Vivian scooped a spoonful into her mouth. It really was delicious.

So this was how well Amara ate on a daily basis.

She wasn't jealous, but she was definitely pissed off.

After just two bites, Vivian dropped her spoon back into the bowl with a loud clatter. Her movements were harsh and noisy.

To a refined gentleman like Jonah, this sort of behavior was practically synonymous with poor breeding.

He frowned. "What's wrong?"

"Let me tell you something."

Vivian crossed her arms, her stunningly delicate features completely composed. "Let's break up."
