"Besides..."
He stared at Silas. "It's not like Harrison actually did anything to her, right?"
He didn't succeed.
So he shouldn't suffer such karma.
A subtle shift occurred in Silas's eyes, and the slight curve of his lips carried an inscrutable meaning. "There are many variations of attempted assault. Harrison didn't voluntarily stop the crime. Do you think that's something to be proud of, Chairman Fowler?"
"I..."
Richard never expected him to bring that up out of nowhere. "Silas, what are you getting at?"
"Exactly what I said." Silas cast a cold, clear glance toward the ward.
"Leaving aside whether there's evidence proving Vivian had anything to do with Harrison's injuries, he didn't act like a decent human being, so he won't escape the legal consequences he deserves. You're trying so hard to downplay it, Chairman Fowler. Aren't you afraid people will say you failed as a father by raising such a bastard?"
"..."
Richard was so shocked his mouth hung open, his vision going black.
How was this just defending Vivian?
He was essentially cursing out the entire Fowler family!
Silas didn't say another word. He gave them a sweeping glance and turned to leave. In just a few moments, he had nearly given Richard a heart attack from pure rage.
"Grace, what on earth is going on with you and Silas? Look at him... It's bad enough he isn't helping us, but he's speaking to you so disrespectfully too! Weren't you two very close? Where did this random woman pop out from?"
Grace bit her lip, offering no answer, and broke into a light jog to chase after the direction the man had left.
Silas was making a phone call as he walked, instructing Martha Gable to prepare some food and send it over. He had just tucked his phone away when the sound of high heels approached from behind.
"Silas."
The woman's face was slightly pale. She clutched her handbag with both hands, looking somewhat antsy.
"Silas... I really have reflected on my actions. I'm sorry I hurt you. You've treated me this way for a while now; can we just call it even?"
She was a wealthy heiress, raised surrounded by admirers since childhood. She naturally lacked no shortage of suitors.
But that environment had given her remarkably high standards. Silas was the only one who caught her eye, yet for her, starting a new relationship required considering many factors.
She never expected that her hesitation would push their relationship to a dead end.
Grace rubbed her fingers together and reached out to grab him.
"I mean it. Let's be good from now on, okay?"
Silas's gaze was completely calm, almost gentle even... but it was a different kind of emotion than before. It was an apathy worse than treating a stranger, tinged with an imperceptible trace of disdain.
"Grace Gifford."
It was the first time he had ever addressed her by her full name. "A person's greatest asset is self-awareness. Time and time again, don't you think you're being a bit shameless?"
