Before the woman could even speak, he lightly raised his hand and shook off her touch, his voice cold. "I thought you were someone with self-awareness, Miss Gifford, or is being overly handsy a family tradition?"
Grace Gifford's face flushed red, then went stark pale. It was an expression difficult to put into words.
Embarrassment, grievance, anger, and pain.
It was all there.
But deep down, she knew that with this man currently in a fit of anger, those words were already a restrained version of what he could have said.
Their previous misunderstandings hadn't been resolved yet; she couldn't add more fuel to the fire.
"Silas..."
Silas Sterling merely spared her a single glance before turning to head upstairs, and the woman behind him quickly followed.
Richard Fowler had immediately gone to see Harrison. This was his only son; he could overlook the usual minor scuffles, but with something this massive, even the best temperament couldn't handle it.
Having just undergone surgery, Harrison hadn't woken up yet. His pale face looked completely devoid of life.
When Richard stepped out, his body swayed slightly. His secretary supported him and helped him sit on a nearby bench. "Chairman, the doctor said he's out of danger. Please take care of yourself and don't worry too much. The young master will be fine."
"This... what is the Fowler family supposed to do now?"
How could they call this fine?
It wasn't just a problem; it was a disaster.
Silas walked over, his tall, straight posture neither arrogant nor submissive. "Chairman Fowler."
Richard stood up, his jaw muscles clenching tightly. He wanted to say something but ultimately held back. Silas wasn't someone he could casually reprimand. "Are you and that woman, Vivian Fairchild, in a serious relationship?"
Silas's eyes were profoundly dark, concealing any trace of emotion.
"How is Harrison?"
"Very bad."
Richard's lips had a bluish tint, his eyes rimmed with red. "The doctor mentioned there's a procedure abroad that might restore some function, but even so, he will never be able to have children."
"Why do you insist on asking that, Chairman Fowler?"
"Of course I need to know!"
A ruthless glint burst from Richard's eyes. "This matter absolutely has something to do with her. If you are serious about her, then you need to be the one to give us an explanation. If you're not..."
He scoffed coldly.
"I will absolutely not let her off the hook!"
Silas remained silent, standing there with an air of untouchable elegance.
He was mysterious and aristocratic, making it impossible for anyone to guess what he was thinking. The quieter he stayed, the more unnerved the people around him became.
Grace pressed her lips together and said softly, "Silas, I know you're a good person, but this isn't a trivial matter. Vivian has to pay the price for what she's done. You can't protect her."
Richard picked up right where she left off. "In our circle, the most important things are reputation and dignity. She ruined Harrison like this; there is no way we'll just let it slide!"
