The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 297

Chapter 297

Chapter 297

*If you loved me even half as much as you cared about her, I promise I’d never let you lose.*

Hah.

He’d probably lose even worse.

A fleeting smirk tugged at the corner of Silas’s mouth. His large hand pressed against her back, gently pushing her upright. “Enough. I’ll get the nurse to take off the bandages. We’re going home.”

With that, he stood up and walked out.

Vivian was left slightly bewildered.

Was this man… really just making small talk? Or was he testing her?

She realized she still couldn’t figure him out.

He wasn’t angry, but he had definitely surprised her.

The nurse returned quickly, giving Vivian an awkward smile. “Miss Fairchild.”

Vivian let her unravel the ridiculous amount of gauze. As layer after layer peeled away, the nurse glanced up, only to be met with Vivian’s deeply resentful glare.

“…Miss Fairchild, Mr. Sterling was likely just looking out for you. He wants you to be more careful in

the future.”

“Right.”

He had absolutely done it to mess with her!

The scrape on her leg had already scabbed over and wouldn’t affect her walking.

Once the bandages were off, Vivian sat on the bed, making no move to pack her things. She had planned to wait for Silas to return and give him a piece of her mind, but the person who walked in was Simon.

“Miss Fairchild, the boss had an urgent matter to attend to. He told me to drop you off.”

Vivian had been cooped up in the hospital for over a week. She had no desire to return to his place and told Simon to drive her straight to Astra Media.

Zoe Hunt hadn’t bothered her with work lately, but Vivian knew perfectly well that the outside world had probably been turned upside down.

As an entertainment company, Astra Media facing a regulatory investigation should have been a drawn-out nightmare.

Yet, not only had they survived unscathed, but their suspension notice was revoked within a single day.

It was completely unprecedented.

Everyone was dying to know who was pulling Astra’s strings. Opportunists were circling, eager to forge connections or fish for information.

Zoe was exhausted from dealing with them, but she couldn’t afford to be too aggressive.

Constantly turning away uninvited guests had caused a massive backlog in their actual work.

When the sound of footsteps approached, Zoe was rubbing her aching temples.

“I already said, if anyone else comes, tell them I’m not here! If we keep wasting time on this, are we just going to abandon our business entirely?”

“Of course we want the business.”

Zoe snapped her head up. “Vivian!”

“Yes, it’s me.”

Vivian noted the sheer exhaustion on Zoe’s face and frowned. “I’ll handle things here. Go home. Your only task for today is to get some solid sleep.”

“I…”

“Don’t argue. Listen to me.”

Zoe was truly dead on her feet, so she didn’t push back, though her eyes remained filled with concern. “Vivian, are you fully recovered? I heard from the hospital that your foot was injured. Are you…”

“Why are you acting like a worrywart mother?” Vivian gave a helpless smile and gently squeezed Zoe’s hand. “Don’t worry, it was nothing serious. The fact that I’m here means I’m fine. Go home and rest. Leave the work to me.”

Zoe brought all the pending files into Vivian’s office and gave her a quick rundown.

“Oh, right. Director Garrison asked for a meeting. I told him you were out of the country on business. He said to contact him as soon as you returned.”

Vivian paused. “Understood.”

Gregory Garrison was a vital connection she had worked hard to establish. She couldn’t afford to let it slip.

As soon as Zoe left, Vivian dialed Gregory’s number and arranged a meeting.

She had just set her phone down when her secretary knocked and peeked in. “President Fairchild,

there’s a gentleman here to see you.”
