"You're leaving town?" a sudden voice spoke up from right behind her.

Jocelyn jumped. Turning around, Edgar's strikingly handsome face came into full view.

"What are you doing here?" she asked in shock.

"Since you turned down my secretary, I naturally had to come invite you myself," he replied smoothly.

She pressed her lips together. If he was showing up in person, it seemed she wasn't getting out of this lunch.

"Are these your parents' ashes?" His gaze shifted to the names engraved below the urn: Warren Quinn, Audrey Gaines.

"Yes," she confirmed.

"An urn draped in the national flag. They weren't ordinary people," he observed.

"They were ordinary people. But they were also military heroes," she corrected softly.

They had served for thirty years. From the day they enlisted, they knew they might not come back.

When she was little, the fear of losing them had consumed her. She used to cry and beg them not to be soldiers anymore.

She remembered her father holding her tightly. "Jocelyn, being a soldier isn't just a job; it's our duty. Because the home we want to protect isn't just this house... it's our entire country!"

As she grew older, she finally understood his words and the true meaning of duty.

That was why she had chosen the National Defense University. And after graduation, just like her parents and her brother, she enlisted.

If news of their deaths hadn't arrived, she might still be in uniform today.

"Since you came all this way to invite me, let's go," she said, before turning back to the urn. "Mom, Dad, I'll come see you again soon."

She turned to leave but noticed he was still standing there.

"Are you..." Her voice trailed off as he stepped directly in front of the urn and bowed his head three times in silent reverence.

She stared in pure shock. His expression was incredibly solemn; each bow was deliberate and deeply respectful.

Only after the third bow did he turn back to her.
