The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 607

Seeing Mia's obvious guilt, the officers exchanged a glance.

Instead of alerting the suspect, they put on a mild expression, pulling out their badges. "Hello, Ms. Hayes. We're from the police department. We're here to investigate some matters and kindly ask for your cooperation."

Mia's agitation cooled slightly at this.

But she didn't dare show any weakness, stubbornly tilting her chin up. "I don't know what you're investigating, but I've been hospitalized this whole time. I haven't contacted anyone or done anything. You shouldn't be looking for me."

The officer remained unmoved, continuing, "Ms. Hayes, have you been in contact with any unidentified individuals recently? Did anyone make you any promises, or agree to do something for you?"

"Promises? Do something?"

Mia frowned. "I have no idea what you're talking about."

Hearing Mia's response, the officers knew exactly where they stood, realizing Nora's guess had been spot on.

At first, they thought Nora had asked them to phrase it this way because she knew something concrete.

Now, seeing Mia's reaction, they realized Nora just understood Mia perfectly.

"Excuse us, Ms. Hayes, could you please cooperate with the investigation? We need to check your phone."

Mia's eyes widened. "On what grounds are you checking my phone?"

"Did I commit a crime or something? Make it clear! Why are you just investigating people out of nowhere? What do you think I am? A suspect? Then you need to tell me exactly what I did to be treated like one!"

The two officers exchanged a look. The older one finally spoke. "It's like this, Ms. Hayes. Recently, Ms. Nora Hayes, your half-sister, has been the target of several attacks."

"Based on clues provided by Ms. Nora Hayes, we suspect you are connected to these incidents, so we ask for your cooperation."

"Ha?"
