"Really?"
Valerie was dying to check the website herself but also felt a spike of dread. As a journalist, she was naturally drawn to the morbid and the dangerous, but basic human survival instincts held her back.
"Yeah."
Nora easily read the conflict on Valerie's face and immediately shut down her curiosity. "I have the department looking into it. The site is going to be heavily monitored and shut down. Do not try to access it."
Valerie slumped slightly, disappointed but knowing Nora was right. It was better to stay far away from something that toxic.
"Understood."
"What about this one?"
Valerie finally spotted a bridesmaid gown that caught her eye. Excited, she spun the tablet around to show Nora the screen.
Nora glanced up and nodded. "That looks great."
Valerie turned to Julia for a second opinion. Julia loved it too, so Valerie eagerly added it to the digital cart.
The boutique staff moved quickly, bringing out the physical gowns for them to inspect.
While Valerie and Julia stepped away to try them on, Nora opened her messaging app. She was about to ask her colleagues for an update when a sharp spike of pain shot through her scalp.
Nora gasped, instinctively jerking her head up. She met the wide, panicked eyes of the stylist.
"I am so sorry, Ms. Hayes! So sorry!"
Nora's gaze dropped to the woman's hands. The stylist must have zoned out and accidentally snagged Nora's hair with a sectioning clip.
It was clearly just a mistake, and it honestly hadn't hurt that much; the initial yank had just caught her off guard.
"It's fine. Just be careful."
