The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 580

"Hahaha..."

Nora couldn't hold back anymore and laughed out loud.

Seeing her so happy, his eyes crinkled with shared joy.

"What's so funny?"

A knock sounded at the door, accompanied by a familiar voice before it even opened. "I could hear you two laughing from the elevator. What's the joke?"

Nora walked over and pulled the door open to find Valerie Cruz standing there, loaded down with shopping bags. Julia Ryland was right beside her.

Surprised to see them together, Nora stepped back to let them in.

"How did you two end up coming together?"

Valerie dropped the bags just inside the doorway and grinned. "We bumped into each other in the lobby. We're both bridesmaids, so we figured we should start syncing up our schedules."

Julia nodded in agreement. "When I heard Captain Peyton was in the hospital, I wanted to visit. The guys from the Special Task Force asked me to bring all this. Everyone's wishing him a speedy recovery."

She held up several baskets of fruit and premium pastries.

Nora quickly took the items from her, feeling a little embarrassed. "It's just a minor injury. They really didn't need to go to all this trouble."

"Exactly," Nathan chimed in. "If the hospital wasn't insisting on keeping me overnight for observation, I'd already be back at my desk."

Julia smiled warmly. "It's just a small gesture. If we weren't wrapping up the case, the whole precinct probably would have shown up."

That caught Nora's attention. "You're talking about the guy who turned himself in?"

"Yeah."

Nora remained silent.

Valerie scoffed. "Absolutely not."

"He probably didn't even realize he'd been set up until his organs started shutting down."

"It's incredibly tragic."

"He was just a disposable pawn used by whoever is actually pulling the strings."

Nora quickly pieced the information together. She looked up, her eyes meeting Nathan's.

A sudden thought struck her. "What's your take on this, Nathan?"

"We need our tech guys to rip that website apart," he said firmly.
