The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 98

Chapter 98

Landon sighed.

“Not until more recently,” Landon confessed. “I’ve managed to block all Caden’s attempts. But now there’s a new player in this game, and I hadn’t factored it in until now.”

I wondered what had happened recently and who the new player he was talking about was. I was about to ask, but Landon’s next words stopped me.

“Despite their estranged relationship, Caden is still his brother, and Leopold cares for him. Just be careful, Cecilia. As Leopold’s concubine, it could be bad if you are caught by anyone other than me speaking with Caden.”

His warning left me feeling almost ill.

“You don’t need to worry, Landon,” I assured him. “I won’t be seeing him again.”

And I meant it.

I didn’t stick around to further this conversation; I was exhausted. A nap, as the others described, sounds really good right now,

I was heading in the direction of my bedroom when I suddenly stopped.

If I went back to my room, I feared that either Leopold or Warren would seek me out, and I wasn’t ready fo deal with either of them right now.

So, instead, I went to the concubine lounge.

Most of the girls weren’t there, which was a relief. I was able to sit on one of the couches without being bothered. I’m sure a majority of them went back to their rooms to get some rest. We had been up early for these lessons the last few days, and I, for one, had barely slept.

Though exhausted, I couldn’t stop replaying that kiss with Warren, feeling torn between desire and confusion. His grip and the ghost of his lips haunted me, making my heart race.

I knew I was stupid, being stuck on that kiss. But my mind was working overtime. That alone was exhausting, and I must have eventually drifted off to sleep because the next thing I knew, I felt myself moving.

I was engulfed in his scent, his warmth… his touch. His arms were wrapped around me, carrying me like I weighed nothing. Through my groggy haze, I looked up at him.

His expression was unreadable.

He kept his eyes straight as he walked down the long corridor. He suddenly stopped and opened the door of a room that I knew to be mine.

I let my eyes fall shut as he lay me down on the familiar bed. For a moment, the silence in the room stretched for what felt like an eternity. I could hear him breathing, the only indication that he was still here.

I felt his fingers brushing a strand of hair out of my face, and for a moment, he just lingered there. Only the sound of his breathing and my heartbeat could be heard in this quiet room.

I felt the loss of his warmth when he pulled away, and I kept myself from shivering.

I knew the moment he left because the door clicked shut behind him. I opened my eyes and sat up, glancing around my darkened room. The blanket was over my body. He tucked me in.

“He cares for us,” Lora commented, and I couldn’t help but roll my eyes.

“He probably just didn’t want me embarrassing him by sleeping in the concubine lounge,” I murmured, my chest tightening.

I took a deep breath before I got out of bed. I couldn’t sleep anymore, not now at least.

It was only a matter of time before Leopold fellasleep and Warren woke up. I wondered how long it would take him to come to my room.

My mind was still a mess when I noticed something on the table across the room. Something that wasn’t there before.
