Chapter 336
“Is there something I can help you with?” Viktor asked, following after me.
I didn’t bother stopping him from following me. I didn’t care if he knew what was going on; my only concern was finding Cecilia. I answered him right away; my silence seemed to be enough for him to know something was
wrong.
“Fae had a feeling something was going on around here,” Viktor commented once we reached the top of the stairs. “She said it seemed as though everyone was preparing for a funeral instead of a wedding. Why do I get the feeling you aren’t particularly happy about marrying your mate?”
I paused for a moment, the words, “She’s not my mate,” on the tip of my tongue. I clenched my fists tightly, irritated that this was the situation right now. I hated Sophia for blinding me for so long from the only person who truly mattered to me.
“We will make it right,” Warren said, his voice coming out softer than it had earlier. “We will get Cecilia back and make her family pay for what they’ve done.”
I continued down the corridor until I reached the guest wing, and then I started towards Maevis’s door.
One of the doors opened, and Fae stepped out.
“I must say, I’m shocked that you returned to this territory after all these years. It’s so good to see you again, Fae,” Maevis said with a small smile as she leaned against the doorframe. “You look gorgeous as ever.”
Queen Fae smiled.
“You’ve always been so kind to me, Mae. I’m so glad you’re doing well, and I’m glad we got to spend this time together. Viktor and I are here for another few days. We leave the day after the wedding. We will have to get together again while I’m here.”
Maevis nodded.
“I’m not sure how long I will be staying here myself. But I definitely would like to see you again before either of us leaves,” Maevis told her, and then her eyes shifted in my direction as we approached. “Your Majesties.”
Fae turned and smiled when she saw Viktor. She immediately went to him and put a hand on his shoulder as she leaned into him.
“Darling, this is Maevis. She was my old guide growing up. She’s incredibly powerful and one of the few who were kind to me before I became your queen,” Fae explained. “I was shocked when I saw her here. I wasn’t expecting it. We just spent the last hour catching up.”
Viktor inclined his head.
“It’s good to meet you, Maevis,” he said to her, his tone deep and controlled.
“Maevis,” I said, drawing her attention to me. “We need to talk. I need your help.”
She frowned as she looked at me.
“My help? With finding Cecilia?”

“Yes,” I said without hesitation. “I keep losing her trail. There has to be something you can do or see that’ll help track her down.”
“You’ve lost someone?” Viktor asked with a frown.
“Someone you love,” Fae commented; that wasn’t a question, and Viktor’s brows shot up to his hairline before realization dawned on him.
“That woman downstairs… she’s not your mate,” he said, his brows now furrowing. “Why are you marrying someone who isn’t your mate?”
“I don’t have time to answer questions,” I said through my teeth before focusing my attention on Maeve.” Maevis, please… can you help me?”
