The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 89

Chapter 89

Cecilia’s POV

I was frozen.

Warren seemed different, and I wasn’t sure what about him made him different. There was pure curiosity on his face as he looked at me, waiting for an answer.

“Of course I am. Why would you ask that?”

“Nothing about you adds up. You’re strong and fast,” he said, his eyes narrowed.

“Maybe not all of us are as weak as the stereotypes say,” I retorted with a shrug.

“The fact that we can communicate doesn’t seem odd to you?”

I paused.

“Of course it does; I’m not sure what it means. But I am who I am.”

I hated lying to him. But I wasn’t sure what more to do. Warren couldn’t find out that I’m not an Omega.

I had to start being more clumsy, like a typical Omega and less like an Alphas daughter. I mean I have been around Omegas plenty of times, so I should be able to do this.

“How about we just talk about something else?” I suggest. “Are you excited for the consort ceremony?”

I have no idea why I decided to ask that. My cheeks were immediately hot.

We continued walking down the same path we had taken in our wolf forms. The night sky was clear and bright with stars. The moon was a crescent, reminding me of a toenail, one of my favorite shapes. It was a gorgeous night out with a slight breeze, and I felt like I could finally breathe again after being inside all day.

I loved taking walks; I also loved running in my wolf form and letting Lora go free. But staying in human form and speaking

openly was nice too.

“Just want to find my mate,” he muttered. “I am tired of not being able to connect with Leopold.”

I nod, my chest heavy for him.

“I am sorry, Warren.”

He was quiet. A lot quieter than usual.

I wondered it had to do with our last conversation in his room. He wasn’t happy that I would be leaving once he found his mate; I thought he’d follow me back to my room like he usually did, but that didn’t end up happening.

It was probably for the best that way anyway. We needed to gain some distance between us if I wanted to come out of this without my heart getting broken.

But we both had to face the fact that eventually, he will find his mate, and then I truly would have to return to the pack that tried to kill me.

I would never see or speak to Warren again, and as much as I hated that thought, I knew it was unavoidable.

“Tell me about your home life,” he suddenly said.

I blinked, confused.

“We already talked about my home life,” I tell him. “My mother died when I was young, and my father betrayed me and possibly her.”

He raised his brows

“How did your mother die?”

“I found out recently that it was because of excessive bleeding when she went into early labor. I didn’t even know she was pregnant,” I tell him, my eyes shifting to the ground as we continued to walk.

“That must have been difficult to find out. How did you find out?”

“I had Jax look into it,” I said softly. I wasn’t sure if I should bring up Jax, considering frow Warren felt about him, but I wanted to be honest because he deserved that. Warren was my friend, and I wanted him to know information about me. He seemed oddly curious, though, and not as playful as he usually was.

I wondered if it was because he’s been lost in thought about his mother all day.

My heart squeezed painfully in my chest at the thought.

“Jax…” his voice came out almost bitter, and I fought a wince at the sudden tone change. “Right.”

“I’m sorry, Warren,” I said, stopping in my tracks. “I never meant to keep anything from you or make you feel like I don’t value our friendship. That’s the furthest thing from the truth. I was just desperate to return to my pack and find out what I can.”

“And you thought I couldn’t help?”
