Chapter 87
Leopold’s POV
“No! Won’t let that happen!” Warten sald, standing from the bed.
I had to admit, the thought of Cecilia leaving this palace didn’t sit right with me either. I had spent the entire night observing her interaction with my wolf, and she was a lot diferent with him than she was with me.
With me, she was closed off. She was stubborn and yet pole; she was modest and kept her head down. She did what she was told, and yet she disobeyed me more times than I could count.
With Warren, though, she was carefree; it was clear she had a wild side, and there was something so youthful about her. She acted her age; she was strong and fast… unlike any Omega I had ever seen.
It made me question if she really was an Omega, but why would anyone other than an Omega coffe to the palace to be a slave? It didn’t make any sense to me.
I found myself wanting to know more about her.
There was a bitter feeling in the pit of my stomach when I saw how she laughed with my wolf and the way she looked at him. But she never looked at me like that. I wasn’t sure why it bothered me so much, but I couldn’t help it.
There was something about their relationship that made me feel resentful.
“We might not have a choice,” Cecilia said, bringing me out of my thoughts. “I don’t see how we can remain friends once King Leopold finds his mate. I don’t want to lose you either… but it’s complicated.”
“No, not complicated. Simple,” Warren said, his words coming out firm. “You stay here with me.”
I wanted to pull him back; his groveling was pathetic. When did my wolf become so desperate for female attention? Or maybe it was just her attention.
Cecilia stood
outh you
awake soon,” she said, her voice barely coming out above a whisper. “I should get back to my room.”
Was he fucking serious? Now, he wanted to follow her to her room? This explained why I always ended up in her bed almost
every morning
She gave me…or him… a sad smile.
“Happy Birthday, Warren.”
She bent and pressed her lips to my cheek. It was soft, and I found that my heart beat a little faster. I wasn’t sure what that was about, but a part of me didn’t want her to leave. I wanted to find out more about her; the way she treated my wolf was so much different than the way she treated me,
That meant I couldn’t be me when getting to know her.
Warren didn’t go after her when she left the room. I was actually surprised when he released his control. I blinked a few times, staring around my empty room, suddenly feeling an odd hollow feeling in the pit of my stomach.
Though I could no longer hear my wolf, I could feel his unease.
Or maybe it was my unease?
At this point, I couldn’t tell.
The rest of the day was typical for my birthday; most avoided me like the plague because they knew how I got around this time of

year. The memory of my mother’s death on my 5(th) birthday was still fresh in my mind. I dreamt about it almost nightly. though they seemed to have lessened lately.
I remember waking up to a bunch of Gammas surrounding my mother. They weren sure how she died, and it still hadn’t been discovered. A mystery I’ve been trying to solve for years.
I will admit, though, that this morning was a good distraction. Watching my wolf spend time with Cecilia was eye-opening
“You seemed happy this morning, Your Majesty,” Landon said as he placed my dinner on my desk. I looked up from what I was doing; I was mostly lost in thought while looking over some documents, trying not to think too hard about this morning, though it was all-consuming. “That’s a change for this time of year.”
I hununed in response as I glanced at the meal he had left for me. It was a steak, cooked exactly how I liked it… rare… still bleeding. There were mashed potatoes, and I could smell the garlic in them, and some mixed veggies with a little salt and
pepper.
But that wasn’t what made my brows furrow.
On a separate plate sat a small cake that read: “Happy Birthday, King Leopold.”
Landon had never given me a cake before; well, actually, he did once, and that was the first and only time I’ve ever really lashed out at him. My eyes darted up to him, and he had a smile on his face.
