The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 85

Chapter 85

Cecilia’s POV

Something felt different; it was bad, but different.

Warren wanted to go for a run. I initially told him that it wasn’t a good idea, but he seemed so eager and excited that I couldn’t deny him. Besides, it was his birthday, and he deserved to spend time doing what he loved to do with someone he considered a friend.

It’s been a few days since I was allowed outside, and it felt amazing to be out of the palace walls again. I was never again going to take the outside for granted.

Warren shifted first, hiding behind a tree so he could strip off his clothes. His large wolf form took control completely and burst through the man who once stood beside me. I allowed Lora to take control as well after 1, too, hid behind a tree to strip off my clothes, placing them carefully on the ground after folding them.

Lora pushed me into the forefront of her mind so I could observe as she shifted into her wolf form. She was smaller than Warren, but she was just as fast as they ran through the woods together.

They were both so carefree and lively that it made me smile to see her like this. It was like she had reverted to her childhood days, I don’t think we ever really had a friend that we could just be ourselves around, and Warren was definitely someone we could be ourselves around.

“You are fast runner,” Warren commented once they slowed their pacing.

“Thank you,” Lora said, and I knew she was flattered by the comment.

“I never saw Omega with such speed,” he continued, thoughtfully.

It wasn’t accusatory, at least it didn’t sound it. But I could hear the questions in his voice, and it made my chest tighten.

I really needed to make sure Lora tamed herself and didn’t give away too much information. She knew that we were pretending to be Omegas, but sometimes when she’s in wolf form with Warren, she forgets that Omegas aren’t as fast or strong.

“Practice,” she said, and I let out a breath of relief that she remembered we were supposed to be Omegas and not the daughter of an Alpha.

Warren looked at her; his glowing honey eyes assessing hers, and I wondered for a moment what he was thinking.

“It’s nice…. having someone to run with,” he said, his voice dropping softer. “Gets mind off of day.”

It helps to spend the day with someone.”

“Birthday is difficult,” he murmured, sitting down near a nearby tree. “Not something I… or Leopold… want to remember.”

“Because of mom?” Lora asked, her voice softer than I had ever heard it, and it was filled with an earnest sadness.

“Yes. Bad memory. Still have nightmares.”

“Lora, we should switch back,” I tell her, as I saw a hint of sunlight peering through the horizon. We had been out all night. I hadn’t realized it until this moment, but the time had gone by so fast. “Leopold will be waking soon. I don’t want him seeing us outside.”

“Don’t need to worry about Leopold,” Warren assured me.

“I don’t want to take the chance,” I say. “I don’t need to get into more trouble than necessary.”

“Okay,” Warren relented. He went behind a tree and shifted back into his human form. I could hear him pulling on the clothes he had left behind the tree. Lora also went behind a tree, releasing her control as she shifted as well.

Once I was back in my human form and had control back, I pulled on my clothes before stepping out from behind the tree

“I am hungry,” Warren said we made our way back towards the palace.

Our movements were hurried, and my eyes were darting in every direction, worried that we might be spotted by one of the guards

The last thing we needed was more rumors circulating the palace.

“We can have cake when we get back to your room,” I tellkim.

He beamed at that and nodded like an excited child. It made me laugh so hard that fears rolled down my cheeks

“Did you hear something?” I heard a voice say from around the corner. I grabbed Warren’s hand and pulled him into a dark corner, our bodies pressed together tight as we allowed the shadows to hide us from whoever was nearby.

“Probably a slave,” another voice murmured. “It’s way too early for anyone else to be awake right now.”

Their voices got quieter as they got further away, and I let out a relieved breath. When I looked up at Warren, I saw that his eyes were dark and he was staring at me. I realized at that moment how close we were truly standing, and heat flooded my cheeks.
