As if that was all it took, Tekk him shifting even more, and then suddenly, everything started to fade around me. I was in some dark limbo for a moment, but it didn’t last long. I was now seeing things through my eyes again, but it was different this time. It was more like I was observing through a window.
This was something that I’ve never experienced before.
Usually, when my wolf takes over, there’s nothing but darkness and then a huge gap in time. I typically wake up to a bunch of bodies around me, or sleeping in a different location, usually next to Cecilia.
But this time, it was so much different, and I had to admit, I didn’t hate it.
I wasn’t in control of my body, but I still walked towards the door and opened it. Warren was on a mission. He was quick in his movements, and I wondered for a moment where he was in a rush to go, but when Cecilia’s door came into view, I knew exactly what he wanted.
Mike, the guard I appointed to keep an eye on Cecilia until further notice, remained at her door, leaning against the wall with his arms folded across his chest.
When he saw me approaching, he bowed his head out of respect, as he always did.
“Your Majesty,” he said, without lifting his head.
“Dismissed,” Warren said, his voice coming out firm and yet not as gruff as mine sometimes sounded. “Punishment no longer in effect.”
Mike lifted his head and frowned, a flicker of surprise in his eyes. I was annoyed that my wolf took the initiative to lift Cecilia’s punishment, but maybe this was for the best. At least for right now.
“Yes, Your Majesty. Just let me know if I’m needed again.”
Without a word of argument, he turned and left. This was the first time I ever heard Warren speak, and even though it was coming out of my mouth and in my voice, it still felt surreal.
My wolf was speaking, and I witnessed it.
He didn’t bother knocking on Cecilia’s door, which mortified me. I wanted to steer him away, but I had no control over the situation. He walked into her room like he had every right to do so.
She turned to look at him; she didn’t look surprised. Instead, she looked… relieved?
“You made cake,” Warren said; it wasn’t a question, but an observation.
“Are you now just noticing?” She teased back. “We already had this conversation.”
“No one ever made me cake before.”
She bit her lower lip and looked away.
“So, you’ve said. And as I’ve said, everyone deserves a cake on their birthday,” she tells him. “Even a broody wolf like yourself”
“Thank you, Cecilia,” he said, lowering his head. “It means a lot. I am sorry for the fight.”
Her cheeks grew pink.
“You’ve already thanked me. I’m sorry too. I shouldn’t have kept you in the dark. You were right, though; you are my friend, and I should have treated you better. For that, I apologize,” she replied, her gaze raising to meet his. “But wait, why are we talking about this again?”
“Wasn’t myself,” he murmured. “Just woke up. Confused for most of conversation.”
