The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 79

Chapter 79

“Let her do it; it’ll be one less competition for Queen at the consort ceremony,” Vivian said, amusement in her tone.

This gained a few chuckles.

“Unless he goes on a rampage and kills the rest of us because of her stupidity,” Elara muttered, shaking her head. “Why do we want to anger someone unstable?”

“I’m not sure what the big deal is,” I say, my brows furrowed. “It’s just a cake.”

“It’s not just a cake,” Jasmine said, frowning. “It’s a reminder to him that it’s his birthday, and that usually always sets him off. It’s better for everyone if we avoid him on that day like the plague.”

“Ever think that maybe he’s grumpy on his birthday because everyone ignores him?” I countered.

“No,” they all say, almost in unison, startling me.

“Trust us…. His birthday is never a good day for anyone. We plan to stay here the entire day. If you were smart, you’d join us.”

“But she’s not smart,” Vivian said, folding her arms across her chest. “She’s an Omega. But whatever… It’s just one less of us we have to worry about. Like I said before, less competition.”

I thought about it for a moment; I had hurt Warren by making him feel like I didn’t value him as a friend. If I disregarded his birthday and avoided him like everyone else, it would only confirm it to him.

I don’t want to lose him as a friend. He deserved to enjoy his special day and have cake. Besides, I was great at baking and already knew the concubine’s kitchen had all the ingredients I needed to make a delicious cake for him.

I just knew in my gut that this was a good idea.

“This all sounds like folklore,” I tell them. “It’s just a birthday cake.”

Ignoring their stares, I went into the kitchen and started to rummage for all the ingredients I needed.

Claira, Jasmine, and Cora came into the kitchen as well to try to convince me one last time that this was a bad idea. Seeing that 1 wasn’t budging, they gave up and left me alone to do my baking.

It took half the day, but eventually the cake was almost done. I was in the middle of frosting and decorating when the kitchen door swung open, and Landon walked in, followed by Mike.

“There you are,” Landon said, his eyes narrowed. “You know you aren’t allowed to go anywhere without your guard. Not even to the concubine lounge.”

I brushed a strand of damp hair out of my face; I was sweating from baking all afternoon.

“Sorry, but this was important,” I tell them. “I didn’t mean to worry anyone.”

“What was so important?” Landon asked, frowning.

“Is that a cake?” Mike asked, his eyes finding the cake I was in the middle of decorating.

“It is.”

“For who?” Mike asked, a worry glint in his tone, which made me think he already knew who this cake was for.

“The King,” I replied.

“What?” Landon asked, stepping closer to get a better look at the cake. “Have you lost your mind?”

“His birthday is tomorrow,” I say, glancing up at him. “I overheard you speaking about it. I thought maybe a cake would make his day a little less miserable.”
