The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 78

Chapter 78

Cecilia’s POV

Leopold’s birthday was tomorrow.

The thought kept circulating in my mind.

I didn’t understand why Landon was telling Mike that everyone needed to keep their distance from him. What about his birthday made him so upset?

I wasn’t sure about King Leopold, but I knew Warren deserved a good birthday. Maybe that was how I could make things right with my friend. I could make him a cake and tell him how sorry I am for not including him in my plans. I never meant to make him feel excluded, like I didn’t value our friendship.

I valued it more than he knew, and I was going to use his birthday as an opportunity to show him just that.

I didn’t bother going back to my room.

Instead, I went straight to the concubine lounge. It was busy this morning; Vivian was occupying the space with some of the other girls, sipping on their tea.

Claira, Jasmine, and Cora were also there, and when they saw me, their faces lit up. Claira was the first to stand and walk towards me, and the other two followed closely after her.

“Good morning,” Claira said, giving me a quick air kiss. “How are you? We heard you got in trouble for sneaking out?”

“Everybody is talking about it,” Jasmine added, smirking. “I think that’s pretty cool. Wish we could have helped, though.”

“Yeah,” I said, shaking my head. “The King grounded me. I’m not allowed to leave this palace until he says so. He has a guard following me around to make sure I don’t leave.”

Jasmine snorted out a laugh.

“So, that’s real?” She asked, shaking her head. “The King actually grounded you? Like a child?”

“Exactly like a child,” I muttered. “It’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. But there’s nothing I can do about it now, I suppose.”

“Where’s the guard now?” Jasmine asked, looking behind me.

“I managed to sneak away before he resumed his post this morning,” I said, making her laugh again. “I’ll deal with the heat of it later.”

“You are going to get into so much trouble,” Claira chuckled, shaking her head. “You’re lucky you are his favorite.”

“Were you really sneaking around with that guy Jax?” Cora asked, raising her brows.

“Jax was only helping me with something,” I say, rolling my eyes at the rumor. “It wasn’t like that. But you know how rumors are.”

“We didn’t think you were that stupid,” Jasmine said, teasingly. “I mean… stepping out on the King would be a suicide mission. It’s a death sentence… literally.”

“And considering you’re still alive… I’m assuming he believed you weren’t stepping out on him?” Claira asked, cocking her head to the side.

“I have no idea,” I tell them, lifting one shoulder. “But anyway, I need to go into the kitchen. I’m making a cake.”

“A cake?” Cora asked, her eyes lighting up. “I love cake. I can’t remember the last time I had cake.”

“Probably since before we came to the palace,” Jasmine told her. “We aren’t allowed to have too many sweets… or else it’ll go
