Chapter 31
Leopold’s POV
“What are you suggesting, Landon? Are you saying this Omega might be my True Mate?”
The idea was utterly preposterous, and I was annoyed by even the suggestion.
“While it’s unusual for an Alpha to be fated to an Omega, it isn’t entirely unheard of,” Landon said.
“I’m not just any Alpha. I’m the Alpha King.”
“Even so. The Moon Goddess works in mysterious ways.” He glanced at Cecilia’s unconscious form still on the bed.
“No,” I said, refusing to even entertain the notion that Cecilia could be my fated mate, my perfect match, the love of my life gifted to me by the Moon Goddess. She was just an Omega, and I was so much more. For us to be bound would have to be some kind of trick.
Besides, “Cecilia is a gold-digging Omega. If we were fate bound, she would use that against me. What purpose would she have for keeping it a secret? No. That woman is not my mate.”
“I understand,” Landon said. “But even if she isn’t, your wolf is clearly drawn to her. Perhaps, until your true mate is found, you could use her to help stabilize your wolf.”
There was some sense to this, at least. Cecilia couldn’t be my true mate, but she did still have an uncanny calming ability over my wolf. It didn’t make sense why she could do this, but the why didn’t matter to me so much right now. What was important was that she could.
If Cecilia could stop my wolf from lashing out and killing anyone, then maybe she was worth keeping around.
“She could do that as a slave,” I said.
“It would be easier to explain her presence at your side if she could officially become one of your concubines. No one would think twice about her visiting you at odd hours, or if she would be at your side for meetings or events.”
I hummed, considering but still unsure.
“Even if your wolf goes to her at night and happens to be seen by others, there would be an excuse. It wouldn’t raise any suspicion,” Landon pressed.
That would make things easier, especially given this circumstance. His wol bad already proven that he would go wherever Cecilia was, even down to the servants’ quarters.
Yes, he supposed making her an official concubine would help to diminish any misunderstanding. He had no intention of having sex with Cecilia, but others didn’t need to know that. This would provide a perfect cover story for his wandering wolf.
“Very well,” I said, giving in. “I can see the benefits here. Besides, soon it will be the night of the mating ceremony and I will have found my true mate. For now, what is one more concubine? It makes little difference to me.”
“Yes, your Highness. I will see to this at once,” Landon said. “Leave everything to me.” He looked at Cecilia again, something I was refusing to do. “When she awakens, 1 will inform her.”
“Make things clear with her, Landon,” I added. “I don’t want her to have any delusions of grandeur with this. Her type are always looking for ways to endear themselves to me. She is a tool. Nothing more.”
“Yes, your Highness,” Landon said. “I will see to it.”
I kept my expression clear, unmoving, emotionless.
But inside, I felt a twinge of something. Cecilia meant nothing to me, of that I was sure. She was a lowly Omega slave. But sometimes, I thought of her soft features and her eyes…

It took more of my willpower than it should have to keep myself from turning to look at her as she rested on the bed.
I shook my head, shaking away the haunting images. They didn’t have any hold over me. She didn’t have a hold, despite what my wolf thought of her.
Finding my true mate would help eliminate these foolish stray thoughts. I only had to make it to the mating ceremony, and my life would change for the better.
Then I wouldn’t have to keep up this charade any longer
Cecilia could go back to being an Omega slave, where she belonged.
