Chapter 30
Panic surged through me, starting in my chest and pushing outward at a record pace. If Leopold woke up and saw us like this, he was definitely going to misunderstand and blame me!
I didn’t want to be punished! Or worse!
Carefully but quickly, I tried to wiggle out from the cage of his arms.
I stilled a few times as he grumbled, not wanting to wake him.
Finally, after several agonizing moments, I had almost slipped free. I was so close to the edge of the bed and my freedom.
Just as I was about to reach…
Just another inch…
A hand grabbed my arm and yanked me farther into the bed. My back hit the mattress, and Leopold closed over me, caging me in yet again but from above and with his full body this time.
His hands gripped hard onto my shoulders, keeping me from getting away. Stopping me from even trying.
He was so strong.
And he looked so angry, his ice-frosted gaze searing down on me, making me frostbitten.
I swallowed hard.
Leopold’s POV
My fury quaked through my body, rattling my insides even as I held myself entirely still outwardly.
I glared down at Cecilia, wondering if I shouldn’t just kill her myself, right here and now.
My voice a dangerous growl, I demanded, “You would dare climb into my bed for a second time?”
“It’s not… It’s…” Cecilia’s voice wavered, her eyes darting nervously around. She was flustered, her cheeks reddening. “This is my room, your Highness! I don’t know why you are here! I swear! I didn’t do anything!”
I didn’t want to believe her and snarled.
She yelped. “I woke up with you beside me! I swear that’s what happened!’
I still didn’t believe her. She had to be lying! She only wanted to take advantage of me like everyone else!”
My rage brought forward my Alpha Voice. I rarely used it. All Alpha Kings were careful with it. Using it inflicted irreversible harm on the lower ranking wolfs, especially on Omegas. To use it was supposed to be a last resort.
In my rage, I thought only of my own fury, and the answers I needed. “Tell the truth.”
Cecilia cried out, visibly trembling under the pressure of my voice. Her face scrunched up in clear agony. Tears welled in her eyes. Through clattering teeth, she persisted, “I don’t know anything! I woke up with you beside me! Please!”
And then, silence.
Her body gave out. She fainted from the pain.
I hovered over her a moment, my hands still forcefully pinning her down to the mattress. I watched her unconscious form like she was faking it. But she didn’t awaken.
A flicker of doubt crossed my mind. Had she really been telling the truth?

I dropped my gaze to my clothes. There were bloodstains on them. When had that happened? My gaze darted to her hand. It was wrapped in fresh bandages, but blood was oozing through again, clearly torn open once more.
I looked around. This was a room in the servants’ quarters, quaint and unassuming.
Confusion blooming inside of me, I connected my mindlink with Landon. I gave him my location. “Get here at once.”
“I’m on my way, Sire.”
I pushed off of Cecilia then, leaving her alone in the bed as stood beside it. Even fainted, her face was frozen in fear. It unsettled me so much, I looked away.
Landon arrived shortly after.
“Tell me what happened,” I said. “How did I come to be here?”
