Chapter 290

m heading to the hospital unit. Find out how this happened. I want names.’

“Yes, Sire.”

Landon bowed before he left the office. I left seconds later and went straight to the hospital unit.

I paused when I saw Cecilia standing in the waiting room; tears pooling in her eyes. She looked pale and had her arms wrapped around herself like she was trying to hold herself together.

She was standing with another concubine; one I had never bothered learning the name of.

When she saw me, she tensed.

“What happened?” I asked, my voice gruffer than I meant.

“Claira had an allergic reaction,” she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. “It was really bad… she could die.”

“She’s not going to die,” the girl beside her said, folding her arms across her chest. “She’s a fighter. She will get through this.”

“It was meant for me…” Cecilia said softly, shaking her head slowly. “I was the one who was supposed to drink that tea. I’m also allergic to Wildflower orchard. A single taste would have killed me almost immediately.”

Her face had gone paler at that moment, and my heart stopped in my chest.

“What do you mean it was meant for you?”

“You’re allergic too?” The girl beside her asked. “It seems like it would have been worse if you drank it.”

Cecilia nodded numbly.

“It was my tea,” she told me, peeking up at me through her long lashes. “She wanted a sip because she was running late and the tea smelled good. But the moment she had a taste, she had the allergic reaction.”

I pressed my lips together; anger simmering beneath the surface, and something primal wanted to break free from my body and attack everyone who dared to try and hurt Cecilia.

“Return to your room,” I tell her, my voice hardening.

“What?” She asked, blinking in confusion.

“You heard me… don’t make me repeat myself.”

I spoke through my teeth.

“I’m not going anywhere when Claira is being treated,” she told me, folding her arms across her chest.

I let out a low growl as I stepped closer to her, towering over her small frame.

“Do not make me repeat myself, Cecilia,” I said in a low and lethal tone. “You won’t like what’ll happen if I do.

She let out a breath and stepped back.

“Is that a threat, Your Majesty?”

The corner of my lips curved.

“It’s a promise.”

She stared at me for a beat longer before the concubine beside her put a hand on her shoulder.

“It’ll be okay. I will keep you updated on Claira’s condition. Cora will be returning soon too, and we will wait here together. You should do what the King has commanded.”

Cecilia looked like she wanted to argue more, but she squared her shoulders and looked me in the eyes.

“Fine,” she said, though it was anything but fine from her voice.

Without another word, she brushed past me and left the hospital unit.

Just then, Landon walked into the waiting room.

“Your Majesty,” he greeted. “I found something you might be interested in.”

“What is it?”
