Chapter 247
cilia’s POV
My father’s eyes were unfocused as he stared at me. He swayed on the spot, and I thought for a moment that he was going to fall over and I would have to catch him or something. He reeked of alcohol, and my nose crinkled again at the scent.
I had never seen my father like this before; he was usually put together and more like an Alpha. But right now, he) seemed like he was nothing more than a drunk, and it confused me.
It made me wonder what had happened to cause him to drink so much.
The corner of his lips curved after a while, and I could see the devious smirk displayed on his face. It made my chest feel tight and my stomach knot up.
“So, you found out the truth? Can’t say I’m surprised. You were always bright… like your mother,” he muttered, his words coming out slurred.
My heart dropped into my stomach.
So, it was the truth. My father had an affair with Diana while he was still with my mother… while she was alive. My mother was supposed to be his mate, and he betrayed her. It made me wonder if mate bonds really meant anything…
Pain struck me at that moment, and I took a step away from him. My father was someone I barely recognized anymore. He was a stranger, and I felt sick to my stomach knowing that I had been under this monster’s roof for this long.
“How could you do that to her?” I asked, my voice dropping to a whisper. “She was your fated mate… did that mean nothing to you?”
A chortled laugh bubbled out of him.
“My mate?” He asked, stepping closer to me. “Did you really believe that shit? Your mother wasn’t my mate.”
His words were like a slap in the face, and my eyes went wide; basically, he was saying that everything I thought I knew was a complete lie.
“What?” I asked, barely above a whisper.
He laughed again and shook his head.
“Your mother was never my mate. It was just something I told people to get sympathy after her death. My true mate had always been Diana. She’s the one I love and will always choose over anyone. Your mother was just a placeholder.”
I stared at him with disbelief, my mouth hanging open.
“You’re serious?” I asked, my hands trembling at my sides, “Diana is your fated mate?”
“Don’t you get it? I was never in love with your mother. Her death was the greatest day of my life,” he said through his teeth.
This time, he did topple over, but he caught himself on the wall before he fell to the ground.
“This… this can’t be true,” I breathed shakily, tears burning in my eyes. “You’re lying. You must be lying!”

“For the first time in my life… I’m not,” he murmured.
How could you lie about it for all these years? How could you make me believe that you loved her and were devastated about her death?” I asked, tears spilling down my cheeks now.
No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t keep them at bay.
He rolled his eyes.
“Because she got pregnant. I couldn’t let people think their Alpha was that careless and knocking random she wolves up,” he murmured.
There was something about the way he spoke… not the drunken slurs, but the way he wouldn’t meet my eyes… the way his eyes kept shifting around like he was looking or something that wasn’t there… it made me wonder if he was telling the truth just now.
Like, there was more to the story that he wasn’t saying.
“Cecilia!”
I heard my name from a distance, and I turned to see Landon rushing down the corridor. He appeared to be breathless, as if he had been running for a while, and his eyes flashed with panic.
“Landon?” I asked, my brows furrowed. “What’s going on?”
“It’s the King… he needs your attention,” Landon finally said when he reached me.
“My attention?” I asked, furrowing my brows even more. “What are you talking about?”
