Chapter 244
Third Person POV
Cecilia’s face was pale, and Sophia was questioning why she was coming out of the obstetrics department. She looked like she was a deer caught in the headlights.
Sophia hated that Leopold looked concerned; she wished that he could look the other way and turn away from her. But of course, he had to approach her the second he spotted her and question what she was doing there.
It annoyed Sophia more than anything.
“I was just going for a routine visit,” Cecilia said after a long moment of silence.
The way she was sucking her bottom lip into her mouth and tugging at the skirt of her dress, Sophia knew that Cecilia was lying. She had the same tell she’s always had since they were kids.
She pressed her lips together, her eyes never leaving Cecilia’s face.
“A routine visit?” Leopold asked, his own brows pinching together. “Why was I not made aware?”
“I apologize, Your Majesty, but I don’t see how it’s any of your business,” she said, folding her arms across her
chest.
“None of my business? You’re my concubine, Cecilia. Everything you do is my business.”
Sophia could tell he was getting riled up, and it filled the pit of her stomach with dread. He was way too preoccupied with Cecilia and not occupied enough with Sophia.
“Are you informed of when your other concubines will see the gynecologist?” She then asked, narrowing her eyes.
“It’s different from the others,” Leopold sneered.
“And why is that?”
“Because you are different, Cecilia!”
She opened her mouth to say something, her cheeks a bit flushed and her eyes becoming wild. But Sophia had had enough with this lovers’ quarrel; she wasn’t going to stand around and allow Cecilia to steal the spotlight again.
Growing up, Cecilia always needed to be the center of attention. But that was going to end today; now it was Sophia’s turn to become bigger than little Miss Perfect CC.
Just as Cecilia was about to reply, an idea came to Sophia, and she played it out before she could think better of it.
She allowed her body to go limp, and she grabbed Leopold’s arm, gaining his attention.
“King Leopold,” she gasped as her knees buckled. “I’m feeling unwell. I might faint.”
And then she pretended to faint in his arms. He was quick to catch her, and because her eyes were closed, she couldn’t tell if he was staring at her with worry or not. But she had hoped that he was.
Suddenly, he lifted her off the ground, cradling her against his chest.
“What happened?” He asked, confused. “Why are you ill? You didn’t tell me you were feeling unwell.”
“I didn’t want to worry you,” she whispered, hoarsely. “Please… help me.
She let her body go even more limp.

“I’m taking you into the clinic to have you looked at,” Leopold said as he started towards the building.
paused only for a moment, though, and Sophia knew he was glaring over his shoulder at Cecilia, even without looking at him.
“We aren’t done here,” he tells her.
“Yes, we are,” Cecilia replied, her tone colder than Sophia had ever heard it.
Good; she wanted Cecilia to be angry… she wanted Leopold to leave her be, and maybe if Cecilia were angry enough, she would start avoiding him better.
Without another word, Leopold rushed into the clinic.
“What happened?” A woman asked after a little while.
“She fainted,” Leopold replied. “I’m not sure what’s wrong.”
“Place her on one of the beds,” the same woman instructed. “I’ll see what I can figure out.”
“There might be an internal problem,” another voice said, a deeper male voice, and Sophia nearly jumped for joy at the sound of it.
She recognized that voice, and she was pleased that he was there. He must have spotted her and come rushing towards them.
“I should take her to get scanned,” he continued.
“Dr. Richards. I thought you were busy this afternoon. Are you sure you have time?” The woman asked.
“This is our future Queen, Victoria. She’s a VIP patient. The royals will always come first. You know this as well as I do,” he told her.
“Of course,” the woman, Victoria said quickly. “I meant no disrespect, Your Majesty.” She added, turning her attention to Leopold.
“Do what you must,” Leopold said. “I have other matters to-”
Sophia knew he was trying to leave, so she quickly opened her eyes and grabbed his arm.
“Please, don’t leave…” she whispered weakly. “I need you… I can’t do this without you.”
“It won’t take long, Your Majesty. I will have her back shortly,” Dr. Richards said, bowing his head to the King.
Leopold stared at Sophia for a moment longer and then down at the hand she had wrapped around his bicep before he let out a breath.
“Very well. I’ll be here when you are finished,” he assured her.
She let out a breath of relief; if she could keep him here, he wouldn’t go after Cecilia, which is exactly what Sophia knew he wanted to do.
Dr. Richards offered Sophia his arm, and she went with him towards another section of the clinic. Once they were alone, he released her and turned to face her, his eyes narrowed.
“I was surprised when I saw you being carried into the clinic,” he said, folding his arms across his chest. “You aren’t that good of an actor, Sophia. You never were. What are you up to?”
She rolled her eyes.
