The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 237

Chapter 237

was seated with the others on the couch, sipping their morning tea. Cora and Claira both looked up from their cups to look at me, frowns marring their lips.

“You haven’t slept,” Cora said, assessing my face.

It wasn’t a question, but I still shook my head anyway.

“Not a second,” I confessed.

“You must be Cecilia,” a woman said as she approached, turning my attention to her.

She was tall, with auburn hair and bright green eyes that reminded me of emeralds. She was gorgeous with her cheekbones and her rosy, plump lips. The corner of her mouth curved into a smile, showing off her gorgeous white teeth.

It was like she had no flaws, and I was suddenly feeling less than.

“I’m Jewel,” she said, her voice velvety. “The seamstress.”

“It’s an honor to meet you.” I curtsy to her, and she lets out a low chuckle.

“No need for formalities. I’m only here to do a job, and then I’ll be out of your hair,” she told me. “A dress had already been picked out for you. I’m just here to make sure it fits right and make any necessary alterations.”

I nodded, my heart hammering against my chest as I followed her towards the back dressing rooms. Once there, she pulled out a gorgeous off-white dress that practically sparkled under the fluorescent lighting, and my heart stopped for what felt like the hundredth time this morning alone.

“It’s white,” I commented, my brows furrowing.

“It’s off-white,” she corrected. “Isn’t it gorgeous? It’s an original design by Eloise Hampton herself.”

Eloise Hampton designed bridal gowns; I’ve read about her. She made wedding gowns for all the celebrities and big-shot Alphas.

“It’s beautiful, but wouldn’t it be strange if I wore a white dress to a wedding that isn’t mine?”

She frowned.

“It’s not like I chose this dress,” she said, lifting her shoulders. “It’s been approved by the King, so that’s all that really matters. Besides, as I said, it’s not white… It’s off white. There’s a difference in colors. I’d be happy to explain it to you if you’d like.”

My cheeks burned.

“No, it’s okay,” I said, wanting to move on from this.

“Good,” she said as she clapped her hands. “Now, let’s get this on you and fitted.”

Not long after, I was wearing a gorgeous off-white gown that made me feel like I was the one getting married. But I knew I was only being a fool in thinking that, and I let out a bitter laugh. One that Jewel didn’t seem to hear; or if she did hear, she didn’t care.

By the time she was done with the alterations, I had a dress that fit me perfectly and hugged every single one of my curves like it was made for me and me alone. I was breathtaking, and tears immediately started to fill my eyes at the sight.

It was a tease. That’s all this was.

was a state of Iffe I could have… and then it’ll get ripped away from me like it always is. Sophia will make sure of that.

After she made a couple more adjustments to the gown, it was finally time to take it off.

The moment I was back in my original dress, I felt like I could breathe a bit easier.

“Well, that’s it. It was nice meeting you. Make sure you eat light foods, so you don’t gain any extra weight.”

Those were her parting words.

“Well, she seemed delightful,” Jasmine said, rolling her eyes.

“She was actually kind of nice.” I shrugged.

“Was the dress nice?” Cora asked.

I felt heat creep up my cheeks.

“Yeah,” I tell them. “It was nice.”

They stared at me, knowing that I wasn’t telling them everything. They looked amongst themselves before they turned back to me.

“Why didn’t you sleep?” Claira asked, frowning.

“I_”

“And before you come up with some lame excuse, just know, we can see right through you, Cecilia. We are your friends, and we want to know the truth,” Claira added before I could say anything.

“She’s right,” Cora said, stepping closer to me and putting a hand on my shoulder. “You can depend on us and trust us. Please, let us in.”

As I stared at them, I knew they were right. They’ve been nothing but amazing to me since we met, and I’ve been keeping all my emotions and stuff to myself. I should be able to depend on them. I’m just so used to being let down that I thought they would do the same.

But I was wrong.

“Okay,” I said softly. “The thing is… I can’t shift.”

They all blinked and stared at me.
