Sophia wore my mark… but her scent was all wrong.
Something wasn’t right… and I needed to find out what it was.
“You should go,” Cecilia said, looking away from me. “I don’t want to see you anymore.”
“That’s not how this works.”
“It is when you are getting married,” she tells me, her voice wavering slightly.
She was angry… rightfully so.
I was being a dick, and I was aware of it.
“You are marrying Sophia, your fated mate,” she continued, her voice softening a fraction. “Do not make me break my own morals by being with a man who doesn’t belong to me.”
Tears had filled her eyes as she spoke that last part, and everything inside of me wanted to pull her into my lap and soothe her. I never wanted to see her shed another tear again, and that thought terrified me.
I wasn’t supposed to have feelings.
Not for an Omega.
Not for anybody other than my fated mate, the only one who can break this curse and set my wolf free.
But then there was Cecilia, someone I’ve been finding myself wanting to protect. So much so that I would carry Sophia out of the royal dining hall and away from Cecilia before anything else happened. Being able to end that dinner early was a blessing in disguise.
opened my mouth to tell her… something… anything… to make her understand. But then something on her bed caught my eye.
“What is that?” I asked, staring at the long black box in the center of her bed.
She glanced at it with a frown and then lifted one of her shoulders.
“A gift from Jax… to apologize for leaving me in the middle of dinner,” she tells me, and something inside of me snapped.
Of course, it was a gift from Jax… what did I expect?
They were always together, and Jax asked if he could take her away from here. The way she was when she was with him compared to the way she was when she was around me…it was a vast difference, and it made my insides feel sour.
Before either of us could say another word, there was a knock on the door. I don’t bother letting her answer it; I turn and walk to the door, fully expecting to be faced with Jax.
I’m not sure if I could control myself right now if I saw him.
I froze when I saw Landon on the other side of the door.
“Sire, I’ve come to look for you,” he tells me, and then he glances over my shoulder at Cecilia. “Is everything alright?” He asked, pulling his attention from her and back to me.

“Yeah,” I say before Cecilia can speak. “I was just leaving.”
s interruption was probably also a blessing in disguise.
I stepped out of Cecilia’s room and shut the door behind me, not even bothering to say goodbye to her. I could feel Landon’s eyes on me as I started down the hallway and towards my own room. I needed to get some space between Cecilia and me so I could breathe.
“Sire, are you sure you know what you’re doing?” Landon asked, worry clear in his tone. “You have two very angry women on your hands.”
