Chapter 230

Cecilia’s POV

My wolf had been quiet since dinner last night. After Leopold left Sophia, I was left to deal with my father and stepmother. My father looked at me with such disappointment that my chest tightened.

I knew, growing up, that my father had his secrets. Diana and Sophia were almost always around. I thought it was because my father was the Alpha, and Diana and Sophia came in off the streets. He wanted to protect them, and because of that, Sophia and I grew up to be what I thought were best friends.

We were more than best friends….she was pretty much my sister.

My dad always treated her better than me.

But I truly never thought he would take things this far.

“You aren’t fit to be sitting at this table,” Diana had told me, her eyes turning into thin slits.

The memory made Lora scowl. I winced at the sound in my head, never having heard it before, at least not from my wolf.

Then, my talk with Leopold last night kept weighing on my mind. I couldn’t believe he dared to come to my room after what he had done during dinner. If he cared so much about Sophia, why bother coming to see me at all?

Lora growled again at the thought, and once again, I winced.

“Lora, what is wrong with you?” I murmured, hoping to get through to her.

She hadn’t spoken much these last few days, and I was getting worried. She’s normally more vocal than this.

When she didn’t reply, I sighed and decided not to dwell too hard on it.

Someone knocked on the door, turning my attention away from my wolf. I went to the door and pulled it open, finding Landon on the other side.

“My apologies for the early wake-up, Cecilia,” he said, bowing his head slightly. “However, you are needed in the banquet hall.”

“The banquet hall? For what?”

“They are about to start planning the dinner rehearsal,” he explained. “And because you are in charge of the planning committee…”

He didn’t have to finish his sentence.

Dread filled the pit of my stomach, but I swallowed and took a deep breath.

“Let me just get dressed, and I will be down there soon,” I tell him, trying to keep my composure.

He nodded and stepped back.

“Of course,” he says before he turns and walks away.

I shut the door the moment he was gone and let out a sigh.

Alright…I can do this.

I can plan this wedding rehearsal banquet, and everything will be okay. Fairly soon, Leopold will get married, and

I will be set free. I’ll be able to go home, figure out the truth about my mother, and then start my life over again.

ut on a casual dress and braided my hair down my back before I slipped on some flats and headed out of my room. The walk to the banquet hall felt like it took forever. By the time I got there, I was on edge. However, I couldn’t tell if it was my wolf that was on edge or me.

She had been acting so strangely, and she won’t tell me what’s up.
