Chapter 228
Kou shouldn’t be here,” she said, tightening the robe around her thin frame.
“Let me see your hand, Cecilia. My patience will only go so far.”
She pressed her lips together, her cheek and nose area reddening slightly.
“You have no right-”
“I am the King, and you are my concubine. I have every right,” I tell her without missing a beat.
Before she could pull further away from me, I grabbed hold of her wrist and brought her hand to my eyes. I scanned her delicate flesh; her hands were soft against mine… they were smaller than mine as well, and her nails were neatly trimmed. Her fingers are delicate.
Her fingers?
What the hell was wrong with me?
How was I fantasizing about something as simple as fingers?
I shook the thought from my head when I saw that there was no damage. But then something caught my eye, a sparkle of red. I looked down at her other hand, grabbing her wrist and pulling her hand closer to me so I could see her fingers.
I let out an aggravated breath when I saw the small cut on her finger.
“You cut yourself.”
“It’s just a minor cut,” she said, pulling her hand back, resting it against her chest. “There’s no need to be worried about it.”
I don’t listen to her; instead, I go towards the connected bathroom. Once inside the bathroom, I go towards the far wall where the first-aid kit hangs. Every bathroom in the palace was supposed to be equipped with one.
Even though werewolves heal quickly, they still came in handy.
I grabbed some ointment and bandages before I returned to the bedroom. Cecilia was pacing the ground like she was trying to figure out what to do. Her steps faltered when she saw me, and then her eyes shifted to the bandage and ointment in my hands.
“That’s not necessary. I will heal.”
I don’t listen to her.
I walk towards her, and without warning, I lift her off the ground. She lets out a yelping sound as she wraps her arms around my neck, trying to steady herself. I have to fight to ignore the jolt of electricity I felt from her body close to mine. Touching mine.
It was something I hadn’t felt with Sophia, even though she’s supposed to be my mate.
I placed Cecilia on her bed before I sat beside her.
“What are you-”
She started to ask, but her question died in her throat when I pulled her hand, the one with the cut on her finger, onto my lap. I silently got to work on applying the ointment and bandage to her wound.

“Why are you taking care of me?” She asked, her voice barely above a whisper. “Don’t you have a mate you should
taking care of?”
“You were hurt,” I tell her, as if it were the simplest thing in the world. “Why would I not take care of you?”.
“I don’t think Sophia will like you being in another woman’s room.”
The reminder of Sophia made anger surge through me, but I swallowed it down. How could the very mention of my mate put me in a bad mood? Shouldn’t it be the opposite?
