The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 227

Chapter 227

Leopold’s POV-

“The healers will be in shortly to give you some medication to quicken the healing process. You’ll have another dress sent to you by tomorrow morning. It’ll be better if you forget about what happened this evening and try to move on from it.”

“What?” Sophia gasped. “You’re leaving?”

We were seated in the palace clinic; or rather, I was seated, and Sophia was lying on the bed, groaning in pain.

“I have matters to take care of.”

“Shouldn’t you stay by my side? I am your mate after all,” she said, folding her arms across her chest.

“I’ll come check on you later,” I tell her. “I’m a King; I can’t stay in the clinic all night. I have things to do.

“Please stay… I’m your mate,” she said again.

One of the healers walked in at that moment with a bowl of porridge.

“Good evening, Lady Sophia,” she said, curtsying as she stepped towards the bed. “I brought you some porridge.

It has some herbs meant for healing and should get you back on your feet in no time.”

While she was distracted, I slipped out of the clinic.

Landon was standing on the other side of the door, waiting for me.

“I’ve come to check on you and Lady Sophia. You’re leaving already?”

“I have things to do,” I tell him. “Did Cecilia make it back to her room?”

The question was out before I could stop it; the second it left my lips; I felt my entire body tensing. I couldn’t even look at Landon; that’s how pathetic I felt at that moment.

“She did.”

I nodded and started towards the stairs without saying another word.

“Sire, if you are going to go see her, you must be warned… Cecilia isn’t very pleased at the moment.”

“Neither am I.”

Not long after, I was standing outside of Cecilia’s room. I knocked on her door and waited.

After a few heartbeats, I was about to knock again, but then the door slowly opened. Cecilia stood there, eyes wide, and dressed in a robe, which meant she was either getting ready to bathe or just getting out of the tub, and from her wet streaks of hair, I would say it was the latter.

She stepped back, realizing how close we were.

“King Leopold,” she said, her eyes meeting mine. “Can I help you with something?”

“I’ve come to check on you from dinner,” I tell her, my voice coming out almost unfamiliar.

I internally cursed myself for it, wishing my emotions weren’t so obvious.

“You’ve come to check on me?” She asked, folding her arms across her chest. “Can I ask why?”

“You weren’t supposed to be there,” I blurted before I thought better of it.

blinked, and then her cheeks reddened slightly.

“It’s not like I had a choice-.”

“You did have a choice,” I snapped, interrupting her. “You could have said you were busy and walked away.”

Her mouth fell open slightly.

“It was Jax that agreed on my behalf-”

“Don’t you dare speak his name.”

She sucked in a sharp breath, her eyes growing wide. I realized how possessive and stupid I just sounded, and I knew I needed to dial it back.

“This isn’t about him,” I decided to add, hoping to ease some of the tension.
