Chapter 226
course not. Ifold them I’m allergic to nuts. There shouldn’t be any traces of nuts anywhere.”
“Then why are there pistachios in mine?” I asked, raising my brows as I pulled the pistachio out of my pie.
Her mouth dropped open.
“Oh, goddess… are there nuts in this?” She asked, grabbing her throat. “I could die… even if I’m around them.
Leopold quickly stood.
I could already feel my skin breaking out into hives by just being around pistachios.
“I’m not feeling well…” I murmur, pushing my plate away.
“Can’t you see that Sophia needs help” Diana sked, folding her arms across her chest. “You don’t always need to be the center of attention.”
“I’m not trying to be center of attention. I’m allergic to pistachios,” I murmur, feeling a little dizzy. The scent is too much; I need to get out of here.
“Now you’re making up an allergy?” My father asked, rolling his eyes. “Seriously, Cecilia. Have you always been this dramatic?”
“That’s enough,” Leopold said, his tone controlled. “Dessert is over.”
He glanced at the slave and, without needing to be ordered, they went to clear our plates right away. Just as the dessert was taken away, I felt my breathing return to normal, and I took a few deep breaths, trying to steady my
heart rate.
Sophia too let out a breath.
“That was truly scary,” she said, placing a hand on her chest. “I thought I was a goner for a second.”
She glanced at me, and the corner of her lips lifted.
“I’m sure the kitchen just had a misunderstanding,” she tells me. “That was truly terrifying.”
I glared at her, my cheeks burning. I could still feel the itchiness of my skin and the roughness of my throat. But nobody seemed to care about that; they only cared about the fake act Sophia was putting on.
She grabbed her wine glass and stood, walking over to me.
“Cecilia, I was really hoping we could clear the air and be friends,” she said as she stepped closer to me. “I mean, we are both important to the King, and we both care about him deeply, it seems. It’s only right that his mate and his concubine get along. Don’t you think?”
She bent down, a smile tugging at her lips as she pulled me into a tight embrace.
“Even if you were faking an allergy for the King’s attention, I want us to get along.”
My entire body tensed against hers. I felt her mouth near my ear, and a chill crept up my spine when she spoke in a low and lethal tone.
“I hope you enjoy watching me take everything that was once yours,” she whispered harshly. “This is a reminder that you are nothing.”

She suddenly gasped and stumbled away from me, her wine glass shattering to the ground. Her eyes were wide as she stared down at the large red stain on the front of her dress.
“Cecilia!” She gasped, her eyes filling with tears. “How could you do that?”
Leopold was standing and rushing towards her; the worry on his face nearly gutted me alive.
