Chapter 220
Cecilia’s POV
Once it rose in my throat, I couldn’t stop it.
The only thing I could do was try to find a nearby bush or something, so I didn’t make a complete fool out of myself. If I could manage to throw up without alerting Leopold and Sophia, I would call that a win.
Thankfully, they weren’t paying attention to anything or anyone around them other than themselves, so I was able to obtain a further distance before I lost the little that was put into my stomach.
I felt guilty for throwing up in the palace’s nice shrubbery, but I wasn’t really sure what else to do.
“Cecilia?” I heard my name from a short distance, and I braced myself for Leopold to make an appearance and question what was wrong with me. But it wasn’t Leopold.
It was Jax.
He placed his hand on my back and gave it a short rub.
“Cecilia, what happened? Are you alright?”
I wiped the corner of my mouth, wincing at the taste on my tongue.
“I’m fine,” I lied. “I think I just ate something bad. I’m going to return my chambers for a rest.”
“Your chambers?” He asked, raising his brows. “How about you visit the healers in the medical unit?”
“Honestly, Jax. I’m fine,” I assure him. “I’m just going to rest for the day.”
“Well, at least let me take you back,” he said, stepping closer to me.
“Thank you,” I say softly, accepting his help.
We turn in the opposite direction from Leopold and Sophia; I don’t bother looking back.
Leopold’s POV
My eyes found the back of Cecilia’s head as she walked towards the palace entrance with Jax by her side. His arm was draped protectively around her, and they were saying something to one another I couldn’t quite hear.
“Ouch, you’re hurting me,” Sophia whimpered, and I realized I was squeezing her side with my hands a little too tightly.
I loosened my grip on her and cleared my throat.
“Sorry,” I murmured; I went to pull away, but she clutched my arm a little tighter, keeping me in place.
“My father and mother are coming to the palace this evening for dinner. I should have mentioned it sooner, but I was a little nervous about what you’d say. They’d like to meet their future son-in-law finally.”
I tensed at her words.
Alpha William and his new wife, Luna Diana.
It’s not that I was opposed to dining with them, but to put on an act and pretend to be head over heels in love…

that was going to be challenging. It shouldn’t be, though; it’s been proven that Sophia was, in fact, my mate. She Wore my mark… it had to be true.
“Sounds great,” I tell her, bending down so I can brush my lips against the cherries of her cheek.
She giggled and clutched me a bit tighter.
“I’m glad you said that,” she breathed. “I was worried you’d decline.”
“Why would I decline?”
She lifted one shoulder.
“Because they aren’t from royal status. I worried that dining with them would be… beneath you.
I raised my brows.
“Is that what you think of me?”
Her cheeks grew pink, and she bit her bottom lip like she was trying to suppress a smile and curse herself at the same time.
“Of course not,” she said softly. “I’m sorry if I overspoke.”
I let myself laugh for a moment, though the sound didn’t rumble in my chest.
