Chapter 209
moment she left, the entire room exhaled at once. Everyone resumed what they were doing before her interruption. It was like someone pressed the “play” button.
“What the hell was that about?” Jasmine asked, leaning back in her chair. “What a bitch.”
“Don’t speak like that about our future Queen,” Cora scolded, her voice a hushed whisper. “It’s still treason.
Jasmine just rolled her eyes.
Claira dropped her face into her hands and groaned dramatically.
“Jasmine’s right, though,” she murmured into her hands. “She’s insane. Maybe even a little evil.”
That was an understatement.
“You two are seriously going to get us killed,” Cora hissed. “Shut up.”
Though I knew they were talking, I barely registered what any of them were saying. I just stared at the boxes in front of me.
Wedding planning… flowers, decorations… Leopold’s wedding.
I felt sick to my stomach.
“Are you really going to be doing this?” Jasmine asked softly.
“It’s the Queen’s orders,” Cora said. “She has no choice.”
“She’s not the Queen yet,” Jasmine retorted, rolling her eyes. “She’s acting like she is.”
“It’s fine,” I said, stopping their argument. “If Sophia wants me to plan her wedding… then I will plan her wedding.”
The next few days became unbearable; Sophia made certain of it.
Nothing I did was ever correct. The flowers were wrong, and the fabric looked ugly. The invitations were tasteless. Even the candles somehow offended her. And every time she criticized me, she made sure it was public.
“This table looks like an Omega decorated it,” Sophia said loudly one afternoon while servants awkwardly pretended not to listen. “Then again… I suppose an Omega did decorate this table.”
She crinkled her nose and glared at me.
“It reeks like an amateur,” she spat.
Heat flooded my face instantly as more and more people started to take notice; some snickered… some even looked remorseful.
Another day, she made me reorganize the banquet seating three separate times while she lounged nearby, eating fruit and criticizing every decision I made.
“You really have no eye for elegance,” she sighed dramatically. “Though it makes sense given how you grew up.’
I pressed my lips together, reminding myself that I needed to keep the peace and not get into any arguments with her. That was the last thing I needed right now.

By the third day, the servants had started avoiding eye contact with me entirely. Not because they disliked me… but because they pitied me. It was clear that the future Queen was targeting me, and they wanted no part in that.
The worst part was that Leopold remained almost absent.
I suppose I wasn’t too shocked about that part; after the last time I had seen him, when he told me having sex with me was a mistake, I didn’t expect him to be at my door any time soon. But I thought he would intervene during this wedding, planning nonsense to tell Sophia to calm down and give me some breathing room.
But that never happened.
It was like he was disregarding it all.
I spent most evenings buried in wedding planning to keep distracted so I wouldn’t think about Leopold as much, though it seemed to be doing the opposite because it was his wedding I was planning.
“Mate,” Lora said softly, making me freeze.
“What?” I asked; it’s been days since I’ve heard her voice, and my heart swelled at the sound… but then sank when I realized what she had said.
“I sense mate… he’s around,” she explained.
I looked around, but there was nobody in here besides a few servants and, of course, Sophia, who was now glaring at me with her lips pressed in a thin line.
“Did I say you could stop?” she asked, narrowing her eyes. “You missed a spot.”
I lowered the ribbon I was arranging and turned to look at her.
