Chapter 208

Cecilia’s POV

It was like the entire room had stopped breathing, or maybe it was just me. I stared down at the boxes that were dropped on the table, my mind struggling to catch up with what Sophia had just said.

She wanted me to plan her wedding?

A wedding she was having with King Leopold.

Something twisted violently inside my chest, and for a moment, I thought I was going to throw up.

Jasmine’s eyes were wide as she, too, stared at the boxes; they were filled with different-colored fabrics, and the smaller boxes held jewelry. Mainly wedding rings, but there were also necklaces and bracelets. They were elegant, of course, because Sophia would never settle for less.

Claira suddenly became very interested in staring at the table, and Cora’s face was twisted in annoyance.

But like everyone else, none of them dared to speak.

“You want me to plan your wedding?” I finally asked, finding my voice. “You can’t be serious.”

I heard someone gasping, but I ignored it. My focus was on Sophia entirely.

“Oh, I’m very serious,” she said, smirking.

My mind was racing with confusion and regret all at once.

“As future Queen, I expect perfection,” she continued smoothly. “You’ll organize the flowers, the seating arrangements, music, decorations, banquet preparations….” Her lips curved slightly. “And of course, my dress fitting.”

I stared at her, blinking. I knew right away that this wasn’t about the dress fitting. This was a punishment of a sort.

“You want me to plan your wedding?” I asked again; those were the only words that could leave my mouth because I was so shocked by what she was asking.

This couldn’t be real.

Sophia tilted her head, her eyes narrowing until they were nothing but slits.

“You should be honored, I trust you with something so important,” she said, folding her arms across her chest. ” Surely, you wouldn’t refuse your Queen.”

The words grated against my nerves instantly.

She wasn’t Queen yet.

But somehow… she already acted as though the crown belonged to her. If only everyone else knew the truth. That it was supposed to be her who was sent there to be the King’s servant… but through her and my father’s betrayal, it ended up being me.

“I’ll do it,” I finally said, my voice barely above a whisper as the weight of the situation fell onto my shoulders.

She raised her brows.

“It’s almost like you think you have a choice,” Sophia said. “But I’m glad we are on the same page, Ceceilia. I

knew we could come up with a mutual understanding.”

orced myself to remain calm even as humiliation burned beneath my skin. I knew that refusing her would only make things worse, and I just needed to keep a low profile until I was dismissed from the palace for good. Then, I will never have to see Sophia… or Leopold, again.

One of the servants stepped closer to the table, opening one of the boxes that remained closed, revealing handwritten notes, sketches, and more fabric samples.

“I’ve already selected most of the colors,” Sophia explained while smoothing invisible wrinkles from her dress. But I expect improvements. The current arrangements feel… cheap.”

My jaw tightened because nothing in this palace looked like a cheat. She was doing this on purpose; I could see on her face that this entire ordeal amused her.

“Also,” Sophia added casually. “I’d prefer if you handled everything personally.”

Jasmine scoffed, and I knew from the look on her face that she hadn’t meant to do that out loud.

“Do you have something to say?” Sophia asked, narrowing her eyes at her.

Jasmine forced a smile so fake it was almost impressive.

“Not at all, Your Majesty,” she muttered, the sarcasm clear in her tone.

“You should remember your place,” Sophia said flatly before turning back to me.
