The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 17

Chapter 17

Cecilia’s POV

Warren’s casual comment doesn’t seem to rile up Lora, but it sends me into nothing short of a panic.

True Mate? What is he talking about?

Lora, I ask quietly, hoping there’s no weird side of effect of his curse that will allow him to hear my private conversation with my wolf, have you sensed anything like that?

Like what? she replies, still distracted by her new playmate.

Our True Mates. They’re not Leopold and Warren, are they? I ask persistently.

It takes her a moment to process what I’m saying to her, but finally she answers, albeit uncertainly.

Do not know. Not sensing this…

I usually wouldn’t keep prying, but I have to know. You said earlier that you felt your mate nearby. You mentioned that they seemed trapped. But you don’t think it’s Warren?

She pauses before replying, Mate still nearby, just like before. And still can’t find him.

Unfortunately, the trend of the day seems to be asking questions that only make me feel more confused.

If Warren isn’t Lora’s mate, and Leopold isn’t mine, then why do we all seem to have such a deep connection after only meeting a few hours ago?

I’ve never witnessed Lora this excited to shift so she can play with a friend. And I can’t even bring myself to actively think about what happened between me and Leopold in the bathroom this morning, lest I start blushing and getting butterflies again.

Besides, even without considering the strange feelings of attraction, I am apparently the only one who’s been able to hear and communicate with Warren since Leopold was a baby.

If we aren’t True Mates, how can that be explained?

But it’s late, well past midnight, and I realize I’m getting much too tired to brainstorm explanations for these odd circumstances right now.

Thankfully, Lora and Warren seem to be wearing themselves out as well, and I’m grateful when they both decide it’s time to head back to the palace to finally rest for the night.

Once we’re inside, Lora is more than happy to shift back and give me control. I hear her making little warbling noises to show her content, and smile.

“Goodnight, Your High-I mean, Warren,” i correct myself.

Wait! he calls. Come back to my room.

Of course, I realize. He probably wants ine to tuck him in and make sure he’s all cozy in bed.

But even after I’ve fluffed his pillows, remade his bed, and bundled him up in the blankets, he still looks at me expectantly.

“What is it?” I ask

Sleep here with me, he orders. Then, in a kinder tone, he adds, Please?

I sigh, biting my lip. “I can’t do that, Warren.”

Why not? he asks stubbornly.

“It’s just… not appropriate for us to sleep together You understand, don’t you?”
