Chapter 167
Cecilia’s POV
I couldn’t pull my gaze away from Sophia’s dress.

It was the same dress I was wearing. The same deep blue. The same cut, the same delicate stitching along the bodice that I had just admired in the mirror not long ago. The same dress that fit me like a glove seemed to fit her just as well.
I couldn’t move, my mind racing with doubts and fears about my family’s suspicion, making me feel exposed and anxious.
This wasn’t possible.
My eyes slowly lifted, taking in the details again, searching for something anything… that made it different. But there was nothing.
They were completely identical.
Her gaze flickered over me, taking in every detail with slow, deliberate precision. The corners of her lips curved… not surprised… not confused… satisfied. Maybe a little victorious.
“It seems we both had the same idea,” Sophia said, her eyes meeting mine. “Though only one of us will be on his arm at the end of the ball.”
My stomach twisted.
“Where did you get that dress?”
“I had a designer create it for me,” she said, smoothing her hands down the delicate fabrics. “Isn’t it beautiful?”
I was speechless.
“It’s even got matching earrings,” Sophia said; she shook her head gently, shaking the earrings in her ears. “I will see you at the ball, Cecilia.”
She brushed past me and headed in the opposite direction. I stood frozen for a moment longer before I willed my legs to start moving. I barely registered returning to my room. But I eventually found a pair of earrings that matched the dress, and I put them on before returning to the concubine lounge for more training before the ball.
The ballroom was already full by the time we arrived.
Voices filled the air… low, refined, and constant, blending beneath the soft music that drifted from the musicians’ stations along the far wall. Candlelight flickered against polished floors and glided pillars, casting everything in a warmglow that felt almost… deceptive.
It was the most beautiful sight I had ever seen; it was breathtaking. I had to say, Vivian outdid herself with the execution of this ball, and my chest tightened when I remembered she wouldn’t be seeing the results.
Though smiles and laughter radiated through the room, an unspoken tension lingered, making everything feel rehearsed, as if we were actors in a tense, silent play beneath the shimmering chandeliers.
“Tonight is full moon,” Lora breathed, and I could feel her growing anxiety, making my brows furrow.
Our wolves were typically stronger and more fertile during this time, and having all these wolves, especially Alpha wolves, was a recipe for disaster.
I stepped further into the room beside Jasmine, Claira, and Cora, my posture straight and my expression carefully neutral as I took in the crowd. There were more people than I had expected.
The possible consorts weren’t the only pretty women here; the Lunas were breathtaking, and my heart squeezed at the sight. They looked elegant next to the Alphas; their auras penetrating the room.

There were nobles and their wives as well, each of thetn dressed in their best clothes, already holding glasses of wine and laughing with one another. An uneasy feeling settled over me when I caught the eye of one of the Alphas; his eyes shifted from my face to the rest of my bodyAssessing and calculating it seemed.
It was like he was picking out a piece of steak, and I looked juicy enough. His Luna was standing next to him, which made me even more uneasy. I pulled my gaze away, not wishing to entertain the thought.
“The King still hasn’t arrived,” Jasmine murmured beside me, her brows pulling together slightly as she scanned the room.
