The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 166

Chapter 166

Elora didn’t argue; she knew better than to do that. Instead, she nodded, her bottom lip stuck between her teeth as she chewed it nervously.

“Do we know who did it?” Someone suddenly asked.

Landon’s eyes narrowed.

“As I said… no questions.”

“Are we safe?” Another girl asked, her voice trembling. “Please… I don’t want to die here.”

Landón paused, clearly not expecting that kind of reaction.

He cleared his throat, his gaze softening almost a fraction.

“You’re safe,” he said finally. “As long as you keep your head down and follow instructions.”

That didn’t exactly feel reassuring, and it didn’t seem to make the girl feel any better. She visibly swallowed and stepped back, her head lowering slightly.

Landon turned back to the rest of the room, his hardened exterior mask replacing the slight sincerity he displayed a moment

ago.

“With that said,” he continued. “You will all proceed with preparations for the ball this evening. Vivian had been head of the planning committee, but that shouldn’t ruin the event.”

“The ball is still happening?” Jasmine asked, clearing, shocked by the news.

“Yes.”

Of course it was, because there was nothing more important than the King finding his mate or a queen. My chest tightened, and I suddenly felt like there wasn’t enough air to breathe in this room.

On that note, Landon turned, the guards following behind him. Elora hesitated before lowering her head again and trailing after them. They didn’t need to look at her to know that she was supposed to go with them.

“Well,” Cora muttered, biting her lip. “Do you think Elora actually killed Vivian?”

“No,” I said immiedalty.

They looked at me with identical frowns.

“But she might know who did,” I added.

Silence settled over us again. Then, Madam Isa entered, her presence cutting cleanly through the tension.

“Enough standing around,” she said briskly, clapping her hands and bringing our attention back to the present moment. “We have work to do.”

And just like that… everything continued naturally. It was almost as if nothing had happened, like Vivian wasn’t mysteriously found dead last night.

We spent the day preparing for the ball: hair, makeup, posture, movement… we even rehearsed conversations.

Every detail refined and corrected until perfection felt like a goal and more like a requirement. Most dresses needed adjustments, but mine needed only a few.

It fit perfectly.

As I stood before the mirror, I barely recognized the girl staring back at me. For a moment, I looked like something I wasn’t

Like someone who belonged here.

My chest tightened, and Tpressed a hand lightly against it, trying to ease the strange ache that had settled there.

Leopold hadn’t been seen all day, and I wasn’t the only one who noticed. Whispers spread quickly, some said he was grieving. Others said something else entirely. I didn’t know what to believe; though, I had a feeling he wasn’t grieving over Vivian, considering his mind had been completely taken over by Sophia. But maybe the loss of one of his concubines truly did hit him

hard.

“There were matching earrings for this dress,” Madam Isa said, frowning slightly. “But I can’t seem to find them.”
