The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 141

Chapter 141

She let out a bark of laughter and folded her arms across her chest.

“I’m honestly shocked you hadn’t figured it out sooner. Wasn’t it obvious? All those nights he didn’t tuck you into bed…or answer the phone when he was out… or that all three of us would be gone at the same time and you’d be left alone for hours. Or how about that time he didn’t go to your school performance of the ‘Alpha and I’? I remember you coming to me the next day, devastated.”

Another bubble of laughter leaves her.

“Don’t you remember that I was sick that night? Why did you think he skipped your performance?” She said, rolling her eyes before they rested back on my face. “He was at home reading me bedtime stories and feeding me soup. He was tending to his other family… his real family.”

Bile rose in my throat.

That play, she was talking about, was in elementary school. It was a month before my mother passed away. My father told me that he would be at my performance once he finished with work. I was so excited to have them both there… it was my first performance, and I was unbelievably nervous.

I will never forget the feeling I felt when I saw that my mother was in the crowd, and my father… well… my father wasn’t.

Sophia was right; I did go to her the next day, and I cried in her arms. That was one of the first times she told me I was being too emotional, and I thought she was trying to cheer me up.

Now I realize how wrong I was.

“This whole time… you knew?” I asked, my voice coming out barely above a whisper. “You pretended to be my friend while you kept this from me?”

“It’s not my fault that you were too blind and stupid to see what was right in front of you, Cecilia. I was never your friend, and I never claimed to be. You just assumed I was because I sat there and listened while you cried over the smallest things. It’s no wonder father never wanted to spend any time with you.”

“Sophia, what are you-” Diana’s voice trailed off when her eyes found mine, and then they widened. “And what do we have here?”

“I now know the real reason the King came to rescue the damsel,” Sophia said, her eyes narrowing at me. “She’s his whore.”

The laugh that bubbled out of Diana left me feeling colder than I had a moment ago.

“Oh, isn’t that rich. Well, after tomorrow, she will be as good as dead anyway, so what she is to the King won’t matter,” Diana said as if she were talking about the weather. “Just like her mother.”

“What did you just say?” I asked, and just as I stepped towards her, I felt a grip on my arm, twisting it until I turned to face my father himself. He was staring down at me with a devious scowl on his face, and I immediately shrank into a smaller version of myself. “Father-”

“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” He asked, his tone filled with fury. “Subjecting yourself to be a lowly concubine. You should be ashamed of yourself. You are an embarrassment to the pack.”

“I’m the embarrassment?” I asked; I wanted to laugh at how absurd he sounded. How absurd they all sounded. “You forced me to take Sophia’s place as the virgin omega. I’m only here because of you!”

“You were supposed to be a slave to the King… not spread your legs for him,” my father said through his teeth. “And I only had you take Sophia’s place because I knew you could handle yourself better than she could.”

He was lying; I could tell from the way his brow twitched and how his voice grew a little higher at the end. From what I remembered, that had always been his tell.

“Idoesn’t matter,” I said, pulling away from him. “The result of your sending me to this place was this… You should be the ones to be ashamed. Lying to me my whole life? What kind of man… let alone Alpha-”

I felt the sting across my cheek before I could finish that sentence or comprehend what had just happened. Sophia dramatically stumbled back, and Diana wrapped her arms around her daughter while I held my throbbing cheek.

My father stood before me, his face red with anger and his lip curling in disgust. His hand was still outstretched.

He slapped me.

“Speak to me like that again, and I’ll make sure your other cheek matches this one…”
