The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 113

Chapter 113

“I’m not the only one who fell for her lies, apparently,” Jax reminded me, motioning his head towards the door. “They believed her, too.”

“Well, we aren’t going to make that mistake again,” I said, pressing my lips together. “It’s clear what her motives were, and we aren’t going to let her bring us down again.

“I’m so sorry, Cecilia,” Jax said, lowering his head. “Itruly am…”

I nodded, my chest easing slightly. I know that Jax didn’t mean any harm, and I can’t fault him for falling for Vivian’s lies. I’m hoping now that he sees her for what she truly is, he won’t be as easy to manipulate anymore.

Anna came out of the bathroom moments later.

“I hid under the sink,” she said with a proud smile. “The one place they didn’t look.”

“Probably because no normal-sized person can fit under those sinks,” Jax said, crinkling his nose. “You are a tiny one.”

Anna laughed, her cheeks reddening slightly.

“I guess being small isn’t all that bad,” she retorted.

“Okay, you both need to leave now,” I tell them, motioning for the door. “And Jax, try not to get caught on your way out. I don’t need to come up with another excuse as to why you’re here in the first place. They’ll put two and two together soon enough if you were to be seen.”

Jax nodded and then gave me a quick hug. I felt my body tensing as his arms wrapped around me. Something about the hug made me feel uneasy, but I forced a smile and patted his back in return before he pulled away.

Anna was already out of the room.

“I’ll come see you later,” he told me, and then he was gone before I could tell him not to.

I let out the breath I hadn’t known I was holding and then sat on my bed. What in the world had just happened?

Almost an hour later, Landon returns to my room.

“You are free to return with me to the other palace. You were cleared to go,” he informs me.

A smile lit up my face as I stood, relief flooding me. At least I’ll be able to return with some semblance of normalcy.

Within the hour, Anna and I were heading back to the palace with Landon and some of the other guards who accompanied him.

I wasn’t expecting the strange sense of home I would feel the moment I returned to the palace. The familiar floors and the place’s overall aura had become a comfort to me. I didn’t even mind having to deal with some of the concubines during my lessons in the morning. I just wanted to get things back on track.

The ceremony was fast approaching, and by the time I woke the next morning, relieved to be back in the bed I had come to know as mine, the entire palace was bustling and preparing for the event.

Cora had told me we were going to be rehearsing a dance with a gentleman during our lessons today. I was a bit nervous about that.

I could already hear the exciting chatter of the other concubines as I neared the ballroom.

Your names, along with the names of your dance partners, are on this roster. Please, take a look and meet with your partner to begin your lessons,” Madam Isa announced.

I stepped into the ballroom, my eyes finding Cora, Claira, and Jasmine on the other side of the room. I made my way towards them; they smiled when they saw me.

“Hey, we didn’t think you’d be coming to the lessons today,” Jasmitie said.

“We were just about to see who our dance partners are,” Cora said “I’m not much of a dancer, so hopefully I have a good partner.”

“Same,” Claira said with a nervous smile

Together, we joined the other concubines at the roster. I could hear their excited banter about who they got paired with. Vivian was the loudest because, apparently, she got paired with one of the most eligible warriors in the palace.
