Chapter 103
Cecilia’s POV
Pain shot up the side of my body as I fell to the ground. For a moment, I couldn’t move, and I thought it was because I had broken something. But I quickly realized it was because this man was stepping on my leg. He put more pressure on it, and I felt the pain searing through my entire body.
“Did you really think you could escape me?” he growled
My heart was pounding so hard against my chest I thought it was going to explode In that moment, I felt a glimmer of Lora. It was slight, but I could feel her. She was trying to push through the haze of the drugs.
That small glimmer of her was all I needed. Without putting much thoughtinto it, I spun around and swing my hand in his direction. My hand was partially shifted into my wolf’s claws, and I sliced through what felt like flesh.
I heard him howl out and stagger backwards. I used that to my advantage and kicked my feet out, trying to push him to the ground so I could have the upper hand and escape.
I hit him right in the stomach, though it didn’t do much because he was significantly stronger than I was. But it still distracted him enough that I was able to stagger to my feet and start towards the forest line again. I only needed Lora to break free from this haze for a little while more to get us out of this.
If she could only shift, we’d be able to run way faster.
I was a pretty decent runner in my human form as well, but my leg ached from when he stepped on it.
The loud growl behind me made a shiver run up my spine. That wasn’t a growl of a man trying to suppress his wolf; that was the growl of a man who lost all sense of himself.
A man who had already shifted.
That was the growl of a beast.
Despite the pain in my leg, it only made me run faster. I knew if I stopped, I was as good as dead.
However, there was no outrunning the beast. I barely disappeared through the forest before I was shoved to the ground by the weight of a wolf.
The pain was so excruciating that I screamed at the top of my lungs. This time, I was certain I had broken something. My wrist throbbed as I struggled to make sense of what was happening.
I felt claws digging through my back and my skin giving way as if it were made of paper. I felt the warm trickle of blood before I felt teeth rip through me. I let out a chortled scream, though it got caught in my throat.
It didn’t take long for the pain to fade and for my vision to go hazy. At some point, I had gone completely numb, and I swear I saw my mother’s face right in front of me. She had tears in her eyes, but she was smiling… the same smile I knew and loved so much as a little girl. The same smile that I missed.
I felt myself reaching out to her, wanting her to pull me closer and relish in her warm embrace. I needed her warmth so badly right now; I was feeling so cold. I could feel my body trembling as I struggled to breathe.
The good news was that I no longer felt pain.
The bad news… I was pretty certain I was dying.
I had no idea if this man was still beating me… but just before everything faded to black, I heard Lora’s whisper.
“Mate saved us.”

I couldn’t stand the smellos rogues. This part of the forest was filled with them. They lived in broken-down abandoned homes and tents mostly, and they never cleaned up after themselves, so I was stepping into piles of trash and feces.
They truly lived like animals out here.
Most rogues were criminals ostracized from their packs. Then, there were those who didn’t want to follow their Alpha’s rules and chose to live in the outlands, aka, the Rogue district
As if giving it a name somehow makes it less disgusting and dangerous.
sisn’t the type of place anyone should be, let alone a King, And yet, here I was…. walking through the Rogue District because I ave a strong urge to come here. I couldn’t hear my wolf speaking, but I could feel his distress.
He had taken control up until a few moments ago and started in this direction, following a scent that I couldn’t pick up with my
human nose.
He seemed in a rush, though, and I had a feeling Cecilia was the reason behind it. Since finding out that Jax didn’t write the letter and he didn’t know where Cecilia was, I hadn’t been able to rest.
A couple of hours had passed since my conversation with Jax, and I had Landon and some of the soldiers searching the entire palace for her. But there was no trace of her; I couldn’t even find her maid Anna.
Anna was the one who gave her the note, so she knew the most about it. If Jax wasn’t the one who handed it to her, then who was?
Pain shot through my back, and I hissed in agony as I dropped to my knees. I had never been taken off guard before, let alone attacked like this I wasn’t even sure where the first hit came from.
, trying to get my own attack in, but when my fist came across nothing but air, my brows furrowed. Even though I Anetely blindsided and trying to grasp what happened, I always landed my hits.
More pain shot through my back, and my wrist felt like it had snapped in half. I stared at it, my eyes wide.
