The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 102

Chapter 102

“Lying to me isn’t going to work, Cecilia,” he growled.

My eyes found his as my vision became blurry due to the lack of oxygen. There was something familiar about his gaze, but I couldn’t, for the life of me, figure out what it was.

“One day, the King is a ruthless killer… and then you walk in, and suddenly the kill sprees have stopped, and he seems… happier.” He spat that last word out like it was a bad taste on his tongue, “And you’re going to tell me what you know before! gut you alive.”

He released his hold on my neck, and air rushed into my lungs, making me cough as I fought to catch my breath.

I could barely even breathe, let alone speak. I rubbed my sore throat, trying to steady my shaky and erratic breathing and calm my racing heart at the same time. I tried again to pull for Lora, but there was no luck. I needed to get these chains off me, and then maybe I would be able to sense her at least a little.

The man started to pace back and forth, and my eyes watched his every move.

“You somehow calmed the beast that was unstable,” he said, more to himself than to me. “He was never able to control himself. He was the reason… he killed so many.”

He was going to say something else, but stopped himself, and I wondered what it was he was about to say.

He stopped pacing and turned to look at me.

“Tell me what you did,” he said, pointing the dagger at me again. “Or I will make sure you suffer when I kill you.”

“If you kill me, there will be an investigation. Is that really something you want?” I asked, holding onto the only leverage I had.

I barely even recognized my voice; he must have damaged my windpipe, and it wouldn’t heal properly unless I could reach Lora.

“Trust me, I’ve thought about that,” he muttered. He suddenly started towards the tent, on a mission. “Which is exactly why I brought some supplies to make sure my prints aren’t anywhere near you.”

I had no idea what he was about to get in that tent, but I had no plan to sit around and find out. The second he was gone, I jumped into action. Growing up as the Alpha’s daughter in my pack, I was expected to learn some things; defense being one of

them.

I reached into my hair, pulling out the bobby pin that was keeping it in place.

My hair fell in loose curls around my shoulders; my hands shook, but I ignored them. My only thought was surviving this nightmare. I needed to get the hell out of here before he truly did kill me.

I got to work at picking the lock, trying to get the silver chains off my legs. I wasn’t sure why he didn’t bother with my hands, but I was thankful in this moment that he didn’t. I’ve trained in the past to pick a lock, so I was fairly experienced in this.

The moment the lock disengaged, I could feel it loosen around me. The chains fell to the floor, and the pain from the silver began to ease almost right away.

I got up and started towards the forest line. I needed to figure out where I was. My heart was thudding violently in my chest, and it took everything I had not to scream for help, hoping that someone was close enough to hear me and then help me.

However, by the time I reached the forest line and was so close to escaping, my entire body fell to the ground as I tripped over something.
